What is your favorite all time cover song? Some folks say a song can never be improved from the original presentation, but there are several cases I say disprove that theory.

Another good Simon and Garfunkle cover, The Lemonheads version of “Mrs. Robinson.”

Shawn Colvin once did an album of all covers. I think it was called Cover Girl. I’m gonna go look...

Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You” is superior to Dolly Parton’s original.

Randy Newman & Mark Knopfler doing Arthur Alexander’s “You’d Better Move On”. (Willy deVille does it even better, but good performances of it seemed to have been removed from YT.)

I like the George Benson “on Broadway” better than the original.

My favorite cover collection is Across the Universe. Several of the songs on the album are as good as the original Beatles versions, and the album as a whole is highly listenable. I even enjoyed the sweet movie of which this was the soundtrack.

Desperado covered by Linda Ronstadt was better then the original by the Eagles. The Eagles thought so too.

I don't know why, but I'm getting private replies on this thread. Some of them I've never heard and I thought I'd been araund. Here's Gun and Roses (never one of my favorties) doing
Knocking at Heaven's Door. I'm not convinced it beats Dylan. But, it is a sexy representation for a concert.

Here’s another one: Sawyer Brown doing “6 days on the Road”; they really nailed it!

Surprised no one mentioned Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt.”

And “This Masquerade” was written and originally recorded by Leon Russell.

I like Guns & Roses’ version of Knocking on Heaven’s Door more than Dylan’s. Fwiw.

    Warren Zevon's cover of
Knockin' On Heaven's Door is better than Dylan's original or GNR's. The fact that he was dying when he recorded it kind of imbues it with a sincerity that's lacking in the others...
