What is your favorite all time cover song? Some folks say a song can never be improved from the original presentation, but there are several cases I say disprove that theory.

1. Catch the Wind - Sammy Hagar (Original by Donovan) is one of my favs, But I have to include Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From my Friends", Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee" and Richie Havens', "Here comes the Sun".
I don't know if it counts as a cover, but Ray Charles' version of "AMERICA" is at the top.

George Jones & Alan Jackson did a superb cover of Good Year for the Roses. Elvis Costello did the original.
My all time favorite cover is David Bowie singing Here Today, Gone Tomorrow. (Original was Here Today and Gone Tomorrow.) He really did it well. He did great covers of a couple of Lou Reed songs also.

Bobby “Blue” Bland passed away today. His big hit of 1961 was covered 10 years later by Ann Peebles, produced by Willie Mitchell, with the same studio crew that recorded with Al Green at the time. A masterpiece.
