I just got tired of politics today.
I found it a good "introduction" to the Appalachian Trail.
I hope you enjoy it also.

My partner has been ‘section hiking’ the AT here in Maine the last couple summers.
I refer to it as the green tunnel.

Thanks for posting this! My dream is to do a thru hike when I retire from the Navy in seven years.

I like the fact that both the young and the old are out there together hiking the trail.
Watch this 3 minute 31 second video.

I'm slowly getting all the gear I'll need to do it.
 Just go and do it.

"introduction" to the Appalachian Trail. ..... I thought this was a Mark Sanford thread.

To: Alex in chains
Watch it. It’s one of the better videos I’ve seen on the AT.

I'm not in shape to do the hike yet, but I'm working on it.
There ore other hikes to do, also, and you don't have to do it all, in one pass.
You can get on and off as you please.

This sounds like a fascinating thing to do. I love hiking. But not with these kids.

Last year, the wife and I vacationed in the Southern Appalachians. I drove up to Clingman's Dome at 6600 ft. and hiked around a bit on the AT. Problem is, I'm a birder, and I couldn't walk more than 10 steps without stopping and watching for any new birds.
After three hours, I went about 300 meters. Lol!
Got a LOT of great birds, though...

I like looking at birds and waterfalls.
And after thirty years of using binoculars, I like Steiners.

I typically destroy two pairs of binoculars every year performing bird surveys across the Interior West. So I can't purchase anything too expensive.
My brand of choice is the Nikon Monarch. It's a mid-level pair of binoculars with good clarity and not too expensive.
I prefer 10 x 42, even though they can get a bit heavy.

After 30 years of Air Traffic Control, I learned that shock-proof and water-proof and fog-proof are worth the extra cost.
