Celebrity chef Paula Deen was today sacked from her job at the Food Network despite begging the public for forgiveness over her past use of racial slurs in a heavily-edited video apology.
A Food Network spokesman issued this statement today: 'Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month.' It came just hours after she released the 45-second video in which she says: 'I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong I have done. I want to learn and grow from this.
'Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my fans, my team, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. 'Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made.'
The 66-year-old was due to appear on the Today show this morning to to answer questions from Matt Lauer about the racial slurs - but she pulled out just before the show started. Later that day she announced on her Twitter page that she would be releasing a video statement soon. After the initial video was released another, longer one was then posted on YouTube and was taken down soon after.

She only got fired a few hours ago! Their contracts may not be renewed because of the association. They only got shows because of her! Should the change their show to ‘Not my racist cracka Mama’s meals’?
The only unforgivable crime in this country is being called a racist. Doesn't matter if you really are one. Is Paula Deen a racist? Damifino. The noise and fury over her these past few days hasn't cast any light on the subject. All I know is this is notable because she's a liberal and is getting burned. Liberals usually get a pass on this stuff. When it was Bill Clinton, we were instructed to examine the "totality" of the man.
Deen should have just said this. How could it possibly be worse than this disaster.
Just wait...the conventional wisdom in the social networking world will be that she is a republican.
Could anyone really be surprised by this?
Oh, please. It isn’t a nice word, but lending it some kind of mystically forbidden & horrifically evil aura is playing into the hands of the left. It’s a racial epithet, nothing more-—there are lots of them.
NEVER apologize to a liberal!!! Those f*%@ers don’t accept apologies, they only use them against you as an admission of guilt!!
Best thing to do when a liberal gets ‘offended’ by anything is to double down like Dick Cheney did when he told Patrick Leahy to go f*%$ himself:
He said he wasn’t sorry, that the comment was overdue, and that he was willing to say it again if it was necessary.
Then the left dropped the whole issue.
But if Cheney had apologized they’d have smelled blood and gone after him.
Apparently she has missed an important lesson - never, every apologize to race baiters.
My mom called blacks ‘colored’ up until the early ‘90s when some friends of hers told her it was no longer acceptable.
There was a time when that was the non-pejorative term. It ain’t easy being PC.
You’re exactly right. Segregation was over and done in the South when the National Guard had to be called out in the mid-1970’s to enforce segregation in...wait for it...
Boston.
According to People Mag while Paula did reply Yes, of course to the question about using the n-word, she also added, Its been a very long time. Paula said that she had used the word or thought about using the word in the 1980s when she was a bank teller and the bank was held up by a black bank robber, and she says she probably used the word when describing the events to her husband. Paula also said, But thats just not a word that we use as time has gone on. Things have changed since the 60s in the South. And my children and my brother object to that word being used in any cruel or mean behavior. As well as I do.
It is still inappropriate to joke like that at work, especially as a boss, regardless of how you grew up or who else is doing it. No excuse for stupidity and laziness. :)
put some butter on it Paula!
I believe this is called being hoisted on one’s petard.
“Never apologize, it’s a sign of weakness.” - The Duke
I have to agree & I think the Food Channel is going to get a lot of angry mail for firing her.
She admitted to use of the ‘n’ word 50 yrs ago, yet the reports make it sound like she does it currently on a regular basis. I believe she said that she used it when she described to her husband who had held up the bank she worked in.
As far as I’ve heard, she isn’t guilty of telling jokes with racial or ethnic slurs, but guilty of not telling others NOT to.
The MSM smells blood in the water and they’ve been on the attack.
Let’s see if some of her non-white celebrity friends come out to defend her.
even though im a southerner. Never liked the bitc$.
Also rule #8 of Special Agent Gibbs...
A redneck tea bagger. (now that's an epithet I hate.)
Small correction, please.
The only unforgivable crime in this country is being a white racist.
George and Paula.....ONCE YOU'VE KISSED THE HINEY OF THE RAT MACHINE, YOU ARE THEIR PAWN TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, WHENEVER...
I'll bet Fnetwork was just itching for a reason to can her.....she doesn't fit in with the "cool" people anyway....
I've grown to detest the Food network channel...surprisingly, I still like Bobby Flay and Ina Gartner....even though both are leftist and Ina particularly seems to have a lot of gay friends...
