The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

I don’t think blue grease will help in a garden... but point is marking the culprit with dye or any identifying mark helps to flesh them out.
Yes, I got it. I didn’t think grease would work either, but there’s bound to be something that wouldn’t hurt the plant.
my hubby liked the food coloring sprinkler spray idea.... reminded him of the lobster trap story.
On the opposite side of the state the heat is on. I spent the week picking snow peas and snapping them. With the 90 degree + weather the plants won't last for long.
Last Sunday/Monday another deluge of around 4 inches of rain that pounded the freshly tilled beds into a solid mass that only weeds would penetrate. So the sun/heat is appreciated to dry out once again so I can make the beds ready to accept seed. Most of the tomatoes are planted and caged. I have been adding pepper and basil plants to their beds.
My green beans have only sprouted halfheartedly so I will be filling in the empty spots as the beds dry out enough to dig.
Cute, cute & cute again! Love the names, very clever. Are they a particular breed or Heinz 57s? We have two Heinzes in the family, three Brittanies & a Corgi. They are all fun. You are making me long for a puppy with this pic! I suspect they will be entertaining you shortly!
The more I cogitate, the more I think cameras are the way to go. Dye-based sprinklers do sound like fun, though. And you want to know what really sounds like fun but you have to figure out how to contain the shrapnel? Motion sensor mature zucchini trebuchets!

It’s your hip RD that’s why you feel old, you’re still a young sprout. What does your DR say about it? I had mine replaced about 4 years ago and it’s better than my old hip. Check on it, don’t suffer.

You’re right about that. I did dry some tomatoes, but they’re still kind of bendy. Do I freeze them, in a jar?
Farmtek. Is it a company near SA or did you get it via ‘puter.
We have a woman here who is very interested in “Keyhole” raised gardens. It’s a circle garden with an indent and a few inches from the indent is a round hole held in place with wire. The object is to put composting material in the hole ie, watermelon rinds, salad stuff, and as the plants need moisture their roots travel toward the hole and it is great for red wigglers. I bought one for the community garden and tomorrow I’m going to plant some sweet potatoes in it, plus ? whatever. I’m thinking of some winter squash.
How about a fine steel wire, just about armpit height, it’s not easy to see, or fine steel trip wire if they have to step close to your plant?
