Ok folks. Here are my new Pups. 8 weeks old and cute as buttons. On the right is Semper (male) and on the left is Fidelis (Fi) (female). When we call them to come together it is Semper Fi!

Outstanding news on all fronts it seems. I didn’t think the post was too long either. Always glad to hear the latest news. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. Have a safe trip.

I am not sure what the law is here regarding that. Hubby said today that all except one of the plants is showing signs of new growth. He has put a cage around the oldest Goji, and will probably do the same with the others.

We’ll see where it goes from here. Local LEO’s aren’t too helpful. We had a B & E once. I was so incensed that I jumped up and starting screaming at the prowler and asked him what he thought he was doing in MY HOUSE. He turned around and hightailed it down the hill.

We called the police, but the wouldn’t come or anything. Just said to let them know if we had any more trouble - we didn’t. I wanted them to come and take fingerprints, but no luck there.

Well, I understand that, I also like indeterminates. I guess you could just plant Romas at 2 week intervals to keep a continuous harvest and also make sure that the whole crop doesn’t get wasted if you are unable to process them.

Maybe someone else knows of a good paste tomato that is indeterminent. I am not aware of any.

Yes this freezer has a built in alarm, but either it didn’t go off, or we didn’t hear it as it’s in the utility room at the far end of the house.

I guess I’ll plug it up this fall and see if it is working again, then maybe I’ll move it to the basement where I am more likely to hear it.

Good pictures. We are having good luck so far with the potatoes too. This is the first year we have grown them, so we don’t really have anything to compare to.

They are just starting to bloom this week. I hilled the soil a little and then later, laid down some straw for mulch, and haven’t done much since then.

We’ve been getting some rain interspersed with sunny days, so I haven’t even wateredt them-just kinda letting them grow naturally.LOL

That’s some impressive sized strawberries. Next year, we’ll have to try to get some of that mulch and see what happens.

All in all you’ve got some good potential produce coming on strong.

What little corn I have is about knee to waist high, but I’m short.LOL. Problem is that they were indoors too long before transplanting, and many didn’t survive, so they may not pollinate enough.

I had decided to plant some more corn this weekend and some green beans, but it rained today and yesterday afternoon and evening. I may go ahead and plant the beans in a cardboard juice box indoors, and then transplant later.

I really wanted to get everything planted by mid June to get established before the dog days of summer. Oh well. Hubby’s got lots of stuff going. I just have some of the “experiments” left to do. Like the corn-it’s a more ancient type that is supposed to do better drought, and less finicky about soil.

I agree, but I don’t know of any one that has such a camera. We just have her park in the garage now. Hoping that as they get further from the divorce the hatefulness will die down.

We aren’t really sure if it was ex-husband, one of his nutball friends, or some other person with a grudge.

Hubby taught school for 30 years, and we never had any trouble till the grand kids went to school. Kinda ironic.

I am still just using my old cameras. Maybe some day I’ll get more modern, but usually new technical stuff just frustrates me.

“I am still just using my old cameras”

I didn’t have one, period. Never cared about it but I would like pictues of my Yorkie and perhaps I can actually grow something worth a picture some day.

Yes, it could be, although I think it was more of a spur of the moment maliciousness with out thinking through all the consequences.

I thought the kids should have reported it, but they don’t listen to an old fogy like me.

I did think about going next door and talk to the Grandmother, but since we had no proof, I was reluctant to make her irritated by assuming it was her grandson.

Since then, I have decided that in the future, I’ll just state the facts - xyz happened - did you happen to notice any one in our yard that could have done xyz. If you do happen to notice them, would you please give us a call?

I do think she is a decent person, but the kids these days are freakin’ nuts-it’s like they want to act out every bad thing they ever saw on TV or something.

“I’ll just state the facts - xyz happened - did you happen to notice any one in our yard that could have done xyz. If you do happen to notice them, would you please give us a call?”

Add the following and if it is her grandkids she will hammer them not to go in your yard.

“If you do happen to notice them, would you please give us a call so I can call the police.” That way, she knows you are calling police and she doesn't want her grandkids arrested so she will keep them off your property.

My husband was an abalone diver back in the 1960’s... he had friends that set lobster traps and found that someone was stealing from their traps. He said they greased the lines on the traps with a thick blue grease so anyone dragging them up to their boat deck would have blue marks on the side of their boat. They caught the culprits.

Speaking of rain, we just finished getting a inch dumped on us; 3/4” of it in less than a half hour.

I noticed that some of the new corn, a couple pf precocious okra, and the pumpkins are already breaking through the ground.

Good Job RD! We tried a pup for a month but it tripped me twice and I don’t need a broken hip any sooner then necessary. My grandson showed up today and pulled 8 over mature Tenex from both sides of our driveway with his 4X4 pickup.

What kind of braces are you using to hold the cover?

I use chicken wire over the lower portion of the hoop house and deer netting over the upper portion just to keep the deer out. They are evil varmints here. I also purchased a large piece of 30% shade cloth from Farmtek for the top portion.
BTW, my hoophouse is modified. The single hoop became too narrow too fast, so I added a 10ft wide section down the center for additional space. Y'know, it STILL isn't big enough! Here's a pic to show what I'm trying to describe:

The chicken wire and deer netting is held in place by zip ties. It easy and economical. The top cover is held by shade cloth tabs (find at Lowe's or Home Depot) and tied into place with string so it can be moved out of the way when needed.
The tomato plants Mrs S is standing by have grown through the top covering, so it's currently tied back.

The bases are just rebar that was hammered into the ground and the open ends of the steel poles were placed over them. If you need to tie it down, the steel toprail can easily be drilled through to provide tie-down anchor points.
