I know a Gentlemen, who was Captain in Army in Vietnam back in 1968/9
He told me a story where one time where he had the privilege to Call in a Quick Bombardment from the U.S.S. New Jersey.
He said the Sound was Incredible, even though the ship was like 15 miles away, when those 16 inch shell's impacted the Ridge, it was turned into a sheet of Flame.
I would pay money to have seen that.

Incredible pics! Whether the sniper was killed or just wounded, it seems he got the message.

Well, look on the bright side...the good guys won in the end.Thank God that John Friggin Kerry was there in Paris to tell the world of all the despicable war crimes we committed on a daily basis....committed with an enthusiasm and ferocity unseen since the SS marched across Europe.

The usual result was no more sniping because:
1) They got him, or
2) He decided to choose another line of work.

“Just the sound going overhead was enough to loosen bowels.”
I read once about a spotter in a Cub in WWII that had the broadside that he called in fly right by him. That would shake you up!

They were difficult to take out. We had trouble with one (1967) and the ARVN forces couldnt take care of it. We called in fire from a gun cruiser. No help. We called in an air strike. No help. Finally a Korean squad moved in and the problem was solved.

Indeed it would. Artillery fire at high anglewas carefully announced over aircraft frequencies to alert flights.
Did not prevent a salvo of 155mm or similar passing by quite close to us one time. That does get your attention.

I have only recently begun to learn of the Korean Involvement in the Vietnam War.
I believe they were the Second Largest Foreign Group Operating in Vietnam.
Perhaps only the Australians were Larger. (Other than the U.S. of course)

Speaking of snipers, I see where American Gun: A History of the U.S. in Ten Firearms by former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is #2 on the nonfiction bestseller list.

My (now EX) Brother In-law was a Dr (from the Philippines, but was working for South Korea in Nam) ... was the first case of really bad PSTD that I ever saw. Good man, but very tormented and I hope he is still with us, he actually saved my EX-Wifes Life (I don’t hold that against him)
