A Vietnam War veteran has released incredible night-time photographs he took of American troops opening fire on a Viet Kong sniper who had been firing on a U.S. Army camp.
For more than four decades, photographer James Speed Hensinger kept these incredible photographs to himself, not releasing them to the public until now.
Hensinger was just a 22-year-old paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in April 1970 when a Viet Kong sniper began spraying automatic rifle fire on Hensinger's base in Phu Tai, near the coastal city of Da Nang.
'We were pissed off at taking Viet Cong sniper fire from the mountain above us several nights in a row,' Hensinger, now 66 and living outside Denver, Colorado, recalls. 'The guy would stand up from behind a rock and blow off a clip from his AK47 on full-auto. The sniper was shooting at such a high angle that most of his rounds came through the sheet metal roofs of our hooches. 'We decided to use a "heavy" response the next time the sniper hit us.'

Awesome photos!
He told me a story where one time where he had the privilege to Call in a Quick Bombardment from the U.S.S. New Jersey.
He said the Sound was Incredible, even though the ship was like 15 miles away, when those 16 inch shell's impacted the Ridge, it was turned into a sheet of Flame.
I would pay money to have seen that.
Incredible pics! Whether the sniper was killed or just wounded, it seems he got the message.
I’ve been looking for a while for 16” impact video. If you run across some ping me?
Is a Viet Kong the little brother of King?
Well, look on the bright side...the good guys won in the end.Thank God that John Friggin Kerry was there in Paris to tell the world of all the despicable war crimes we committed on a daily basis....committed with an enthusiasm and ferocity unseen since the SS marched across Europe.
Just the sound going overhead was enough to loosen bowels.
Methinks that should be Cong.
The usual result was no more sniping because:
1) They got him, or
2) He decided to choose another line of work.
“Just the sound going overhead was enough to loosen bowels.”
I read once about a spotter in a Cub in WWII that had the broadside that he called in fly right by him. That would shake you up!
They were difficult to take out. We had trouble with one (1967) and the ARVN forces couldnt take care of it. We called in fire from a gun cruiser. No help. We called in an air strike. No help. Finally a Korean squad moved in and the problem was solved.
Did not prevent a salvo of 155mm or similar passing by quite close to us one time. That does get your attention.
I believe they were the Second Largest Foreign Group Operating in Vietnam.
Perhaps only the Australians were Larger. (Other than the U.S. of course)
The ROK Marines are some Bad Ass Hombres.

My (now EX) Brother In-law was a Dr (from the Philippines, but was working for South Korea in Nam) ... was the first case of really bad PSTD that I ever saw. Good man, but very tormented and I hope he is still with us, he actually saved my EX-Wifes Life (I don’t hold that against him)
