Makes me sick...especially in light of that constant screeching from Pelosi during the Bush years...where are the jobs? How I soooo despise these people.
Moving the goalposts.
4% used to be considered full employment
Would that be 5-6%, with an ever decreasing labor participation rate? Setting the bar rather low, aren’t we? Or, maybe, just maybe, his entire approach, while it works perfectly in an abstract computer model of an economy, is absolute garbage in the real world.
See how easy that was???
Probably reflects all those we’ve moved to the permanent welfare couch.
With what labor force participation rate?
That number is straight out of Keyenes’ macroeconomics. Not a big surprise to me.
It was 3% in the ‘60s when LBJ said that we needed The Great Society programs to bring in the people who had been left out of the prosperity.
Now we have structural unemployment brought on by...the Great Society programs.
6% unemployment has been the standard for full employment as long as the 76 years that i’ve been alive!
Interesting! Just a few short years ago Bush’s 4.7% unemployment rate was considered the “worst economy since Herbert Hoover”. In fact, it was the mantra of Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid who finally won control of Congress in 2006.
Gee, I wonder how many discouraged unemployed who are “no longer seeking employment” are counted in that stat? How many folks who are underemployed?
Given the state of things, stats from this administration and its minions are worthless.
I don’t see it ever getting down to 5% or 6% under this regime. Of course, with the Department of Labor working the stats, anything is possible I guess.
"REAL" unemployment statistics, or made up ones from the 0bama Regime's propaganda machine?
However, and going on the 'Blind Squirrel / Stopped Clock' theory, Bernake sounds like he might be about right. 5% of the population is just plain unemployable.
My standards are higher, I'd argue that it's a lot more.
there is more then 14% unemployement.
0% unemployment is full employment. Liberals, Free Trade Communists, and other America Haters think that unemployment is full employment
The unemployment rate under Bush was as low as 4.4%.Sounds like he is giving up.
US Unemployment Rate data by YCharts
The S&P 500 stock index dropped about 1% as soon as Bernanke opened his mouth. What a coincidence.
Is that U3 or U6 using the models back from the Reagan days? Because if so Helicopter Ben you need to get from your Current 15% unenjoyment to a real number of 5%, that means get of your @$$ and get crackin to make some jobs...
