A 3-year-old police dog died from a heat stroke after being left in his handlers patrol car, Woodstock police said Tuesday.
Spartacus, a Belgian Malinois, was found dead inside the patrol car around 9 p.m. Monday at the officers Pickens County home, according to Brittany Duncan, Woodstock police spokeswoman.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation, Duncan said.

In an unrelated case, a South Georgia police officer resigned in September after leaving his canine partner Sasha in his patrol vehicle for three days.

Cop leaves dog in vehicle to die from a heat stroke, administrative leave.
Cop shoots your family Dog by accident, cost of doing business
What a thoughtless cruel death for your partner. How about a charge of cruelty to animals?
Stupid bastards!
The cop gets a paid vacation for that, right? Sweet!
Hazards of Duty Clause: When the hound was hired, s/he was informed of such hazards and knew s/he could die on the job.
If the hound claims ignorance in the wrongful death action, the Department will just say “S/he was informed of and agreed to the “Hazards of Duty” clause.
See y’all in court.
What the heck kind of people are ethey accepting into the ranks these days? Women beaters, kitten and dog killers, elderly abusers?
They really need to vet these people better than they do. I’m beginning to believe they are taking them straight out of prison and giving them a uniform!
The poor dog deserved better, How can the public respect the police when stories like this and others make it to difficult to do.
Another cop and bad dog story . . .
Police dogs are considered officers of the law and its’ partner allowed it to die in the line of duty. That is murder in my opinion.
Hey, that's just the beginning.
Now it's open for a filing case for permanent disability.
Just wondering where the “shoot the dog policy” came from? Where there any Muslims in high ranking positions that had a hand in drafting it?
Stupid bastard was probably high
What five year old doesn’t know that if you leave your doggie in the car on a hot day, then you at least roll the window down enough for doggie to stick his head out?
ive always been intrigued by this notion that an animal can be deputized - by logical extension - you should be able to sue for excessive force when the “officer” chomps your leg
I’m geting really sick of the double standard. The taxpayers paid for the dog and paid for his training and his dimwit human “partner” will get off worst case with a slap on the hand.
Sickening. The dog deserved better!
Who leaves their dog in the car on a hot night in Atlanta while they are inside their own house?
Second Degree Murder. Murder of a Police Officer...
I would ask for the Death Penalty, just like for anybody else.
I am an owner of a Malinois, so leaving one of these loyal, intelligent animals to die deserves nothing less than dismissal with no pay or retirement...ever. How a man that knows/cares this little about animals gets to be a dog handler is beyond me, forgetting the fact that the PD (taxpayers) probably paid $6-7000 for the dog.
Not so long ago, we had a cop w/ a K-9, who, while at home, had the dog off-leash and it got killed by a car.
IMO, the cop should have had to pay for its replacement out of pocket. But locals rallied and raised him the $$$ for a new one.
