Southern Baptists officially oppose gay Scout rule

The Southern Baptist Convention approved a resolution Wednesday expressing its opposition to the Boy Scouts of America’s new policy allowing gay Scouts, though it doesn’t explicitly call for churches to drop all ties with the organization.

While some action against the Scouts was widely anticipated, given the denomination’s very public opposition to the change, the resolution takes a softer tone than many had expected.

It also calls on the Boy Scouts to remove executive and board leaders who tried to allow gays as both members and leaders without consulting the many religious groups that sponsor troops. It passed overwhelmingly, but not unanimously, by the nation’s largest Protestant denomination at its annual meeting in Houston. …

>>> Lukewarm = spewed out of mouth.

Wow... you have no idea how well you hit that nail on the head.

It’s been how many years now that BSA has been fighting this battle time and time again, and always won... all the way to the supreme court.

And what was BSA’s core line of constitutional defense???

Well... it was the right of association... the freedom to exclude... because BSA is a private organization, our constitution gave them the right to discriminate based on religious beliefs.

Now look what they’ve done... Homosexuality has just been added to the “acceptable” list of Scouting’s religious beliefs. BSA has just handed over the very tool to Satan that he needed to destroy them with.

Why doesn’t anyone see this???
What happens NOW when some gay kid gets excluded or criticized by a parent or a scout leader?
What happens when someone tells an openly gay scout that he is sinning, and therefore cannot be considered morally straight? Doesn’t the gay kid NOW have legal recourse????

Mark my words... we will see a fresh round of discrimination lawsuits against the BSA next year... and I seriously hope you don’t think they’ll leave the churches out of it.

Yeah... This is a test... One that the churches are failing miserably...

And by the way... in Revelation where the lukewarm reference was made... it doesn’t say that God “WANTS to spew them out of His mouth”...

It says that He will!

The Baptists chickened out. Despicable. The BSA has new life. They could have igniting TRUE bibical-based scouting groups, and destroyed evil once and for all...and they BLINKED! Now the BSA goes on serving the Sodomists.

I see it different. The convention is thinking about the boys in scouting that will not leave because of the new changes. They want to maintain a positive influence and also use it as a way to minister to homos in the scouts (until they get sued for it). Bible says love sinner, hate the sin. While I do not share their ideas on sticking it out and would have cut ties, I see what they will try and do.

Here is a link with a discussion of what passed and what was modified:

I doubt any other denomination will take a stronger stance.

They don’t “oppose” it enough to strongly advise separation from this now-godless organization.

And now, this BSA decision cannot be reversed without a deluge of lawsuits from the Gaystapo. Their foot is in the door, and it will never be dislodged.

Even if the decision were reversed, what would happen with all the activist homosexual scouts that "come out" or join up in the meantime? There is absolutely no doubt that they would be allowed to continue, "in good faith," with their homosexual identity going forward. And so, the infection would be allowed to remain and fester, with a foothold in Scouting, to be capitalized upon with renewed venom until the Scouts again capitulated, or until the organization were finally destroyed.

The SBC has been slowly, almost imperceptibly, compromising its beliefs over the last several decades. I was horrified when the president decided to meet with the most vicious activist homosexuals at their last meeting, thereby giving them a "place at the debate table." Unconscionable, and inconceivable only 10 years ago. The homosexuals were ecstatic over this victory, even though they never expected to get any concrete concessions from the SBC leadership. The meeting was concession enough; they now had an "in."

There is a vast difference in speaking the truth in love and lowering your standards to appear "loving." This is an infection that appears to be spreading throughout all of evangelical Christianity.

A Southern Baptist church down the road from me recently removed "Baptist" from their church's name. I say they might as well also remove "Christian" from their nomenclature.

Bible says love sinner, hate the sin
There is no such phrase in the Bible. That phrase is a very rough translation of a Latin phrase in St. Augustine’s Letter 211, which reads cum dilectione hominum et odio vitiorum—better translated “with love for mankind, and hatred for sins“.

Kind of reminds you of our current Congress, doesn't it?

Yes I know that. If I direct quote versus extrapolate I quote chapter and verse.

Do you know of a denomination that has taken a stronger stance against homosexuality? Do you know of one that has taken a stronger stance against what the BSA has done?

What do you think the Bible teaches - that we hate the unconverted?

Sadly, no. Although the Assemblies of God could probably run circles around the current Southern Baptist Denomination in this regard.

But I must ask, what "stance?" A predictable statement of the obvious? Is it supposed to be some kind of earth shattering revelation that the Southern Baptists - ANY real Christian group - oppose homosexuality?

Unless "opposition" outplays its meaning in substantive ACTION, the word is a meaningless platitude. The SBC missed an incredible opportunity to make the world sit up and take notice with a line in the sand - get out of this Babylon.

Do you realize that the homosexual lobby is dancing in the streets on this "resolution" made by the SBC? Any softening is a feather in their cap.

Can you separate the unconverted from what they do? Does God, when he sends body and soul, not merely their sins, to Hell?

The SBC doesn’t often ‘explicitly tell the churches’ to do much of anything. They aren’t the authoritative head like other denominations have. Each SBC church is independent. That being said, bear in mind this is an AP article and they will spin it in the best light possible. I see this as the strongest condemnation coming from any church so far.

“Can you separate the unconverted from what they do?”

“And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.”

“Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”

They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.

When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”

“No, Lord,” she said.

And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
