Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Matt Birk is pro-life so when it came time for the Ravens to visit President Barack Obama for the annual congratulations to the Super Bowl winners, he decided not to go.
I wasnt there, Birk told The Power Trip. I would say this, I would say that I have great respect for the office of the Presidency but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, God bless Planned Parenthood.
Birk, who also took a public stance during the recent gay rights movements that swung through our country last year, is a very open and public Catholic and claims that he took offense to these comments that were made by President Obama. So much so, that he declined a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and be honored by the President at the White House.

This guy could teach Notre Dame a thing or two.
Mr. Birk had better watch it, or he’ll find himself on Tim Tebow’s team. sarc/off
A principled decision, but one which will, no doubt, adversely affect his career. Remember, Tim Thomas, the Bruins goalie who opted not to pay homage to Obama after winning the Stanley Cup, and was effectively driven off the Bruins and out of the NHL? Professional sports are as liberal as the mainstream media- for example, today mediocre sodomite basketball player Jason Collins is being honored with the first pitch at the Red Sox- Rangers game, ostensibly for the courage of his “struggle”. Repugnant.
Bubba spoke at a conference I was at a few years ago and my coworkers and I skipped. I don’t need to sit and be lied to for an hour and half. I knew I’d just leave pissed.

He actually retired after the Super Bowl victory.
According to Wiki he announced his retirement a few months ago.
Not a fan of the Ravens but I respect Matt Birk. Good for him in standing up for his principles.
Maryland "Freak State" PING!
The world needs more people like him.
Excellent! I am not a fan of professional sports, so I don’t follow the Ravens, but this sounds like one Ravens player I could love.
So would I!
I bet he’s getting audited. And then some.
Thomas refused to report to training camp with the Bruins and was traded to the Islanders in February. He played in 2011-2012 but said prior to the lockout shortened 2012-2013 season that he was taking the year off. It remains to be seen if he’s “out of the NHL”.
Good for Mr. Birk. From a Niners fan.
