Vanity / Poll: Changing Free Republic Handle

This topic comes up occassionally, but now is as good a time as any to bring it up again.
I often wonder whether changing your handle on FR matters. I believe in the current environment that changing your handle is about as safe, sound, and secure as changing your password in certain instances.
I also know how well changing a username corrupts the database both for boon and bane.

As a matter of fact, he did. It is indeed important - I salute you for yours, sir!

No, I would not. If I’ve made mistakes in the past, let them stand. That was what I thought then.
To: ConorMacNessa
Well, geez! I can cetainly see why you might have wanted to change that. LOL

Well, I picked mine to be easy to peck out on the keyboard quick, back about enda '97..
And, later, it was cool. For eight years or so...
It's still cool and easy to peck out, so I ain't gonna change it.
Hee, hee, hee...

Nope.
Keep the headstone engraving simple.
No “Formerly known as...” or “AKA ...”

No.

You name on FR is you and your rep is built over time based on that name. Believe me a 1997 sign on is worth more points than a 2013, for good or ill.
To: NowApproachingMidnight
If you keep changing your handle people think your like singer without a real name. You know the purple cow guy. I don’t think you can change it anyway.

I’ve had three: culprit, flake and now hurl and next would have to include some other country as a prefix when I get I decide to leave if ‘16 goes wrong.

I agree with McGavin.
I've made a fool of myself, I've made great posts, made enemies and friends. I'd never change my handle here. It's like family.
So I'm the bitchy aunt...

Many years ago management got a nastygram threatening legal action over an article I wrote and posted here.
To throw the dog off the scent JR agreed to pull the article and “ban” me. I re-incarnated under a different name for about a year then returned as rebelbase.

If they start rounding us up a name change won’t help me a bit. A few posts they’ll locate me in a matter of minutes.

I used the sobriquet "Warthog" for years on other forums, chat rooms, etc. - even my law partners referred to me as Warthog. When I shipped on FR, Warthog was taken so I added my initials at the end. It was not long before I wanted to change to something that hearkened back to my Celtic heritage. I first tried to change to Cuchulain, but it was already taken. So I went for Conchubar Mac Nessa, High King of the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. I used the anglicized spelling rather than the traditional - thought the traditional spelling would seem bizarre to those not familiar with Irish Mythology.
