Left-Pawed Dogs Found to Be More Aggressive
The Telegraph ^ | 02 Jun 2013 | Jasper Copping

"Left-pawed" dogs are more likely to show aggression towards strangers than "right-pawed" ones, new research suggests.

It might provide little comfort to postmen who find themselves chased down the garden path, but their canine tormentors are not necessarily badly trained. It turns out they might just be “left handed”.

Academics have found evidence to suggest that dogs which prefer to use their left paw are more likely to show aggression towards strangers than right-pawed ones.

My pomeranian/Maltese mix Nemo uses his right paw when he pees, but he also goes to his left when he pees sometimes too so just can’t tell..Maxie(the Shih tzu) God knows what he uses, he’s all over the place, silly pooch

I never paid attention before reading this last night but I watched all day and these two doxies must be ambidextrous.

Nemo(the pomeranian) seems to use his front paws to scratch himself..and I know he isn’t aggressive(He just barks like crazy when he sees big dogs, he’s making up for his small size)..Maxie on the other hand, he can be very aggressive at times, getting in big dogs faces and barking at them like crazy..will have to monitor more closely what paw he uses

I don’t know if my boy is right-pawed or left-pawed, but he’s only able to spin in clockwise circles. That’s what he does when he’s really happy or excited, such as when he sees someone he likes, or when he’s going to get a treat. He spins like a top, and almost as fast as one. But always clockwise, several times a day for the past six years, and never once has he spun counterclockwise.

The because we are in the northern hemisphere take him to Australia and see if he spins counterclockwise.

Silly question. You wait until the dog signs his name, and watch.

You watch them paw their favorite toy from under the furniture.

When you tell them ‘gimme paw’ they’ll use one over the other.

Their ‘dominant’ paw is usually the one they favor when they’re holding and chewing something.

However, I’ve never had a dog [out of *many*] that was not “left pawed”.

Their personalities ran the spectrum from total sissies to rip-your-lungs-out and everything in between.

This study is stupid.

Give him a pen and ask him to sign his name.

Uses his right paw to *what* when he pees?

Unzip his trousers?

“Aim”?

O.o

Well, I did, but I think your comment was meant for Young Werther at post #12.

LOL I suspect they mean the leg hiked...now I’m interested in watching which paw my cats use when not influenced. All 4 are entirely non-aggressive, but otherwise have completely different personalities...

Entomologists have arachnid phobias or to quote Caesar

"Quae cum ita sunt. Since these things are so.".
