I loved the show, all the characters. Jean was much like my mother although my father was not like O’Connor.

Aw, dang.

She did such a marvelous job with Edith Bunker. Portrayed her as a sweet and somewhat eccentric lady (much like my grandmother, whom I miss dearly).

RIP, Jean Stapleton.

Lefty Lear created characters who’s purpose was to convey the stupidity of ‘all’ conservatives.

He failed as the message was misinterpreted and the conservative characters were loved and the meathead liberal characters(for the most part) were reviled.

Even when Archie appeared real stupid, the conservative message got through and people felt sorry for the character for not being able to voice it with a smooth cogent argument.

I’ve always thought that she got done dirty by the way she left that show. Stopped watching it then, even the reruns.

Kind of interesting, I watched the show back in the 1970’s and being a kid, the politics went over my head. It was the humor and stupid things they did that I laughed my -— off about - humor like bathroom stuff. But one thing, as I got older watching the show, there were many things presented that was screwed up like being required to work and having no place or right to enjoy the fruits of your labor. The character Meathead, he was laughed at by me as someone who was so ignorant and stupid but what I read about him in real life, the guy was and still is a dumbs—t and believed in the —— that he played on in the show.

When the show first aired in the early 1970s I used to watch it with my uncle. That was the first time I heard someone in a TV show yell:”What the Hell are you talking about!!??” I couldn't believe my ears! How far we have come since then as to what is shown on TV.
