The Boy Scouts of America will likely continue banning atheists and other non-believers from their troops, even though it now accepts openly gay members among its ranks.
"I don't see that happening, at least not in the immediate future," said Neil Polzin, an Eagle Scout fired from his job in 2009 as a Boy Scout camp aquatics director, after he admitted he is an atheist.
"The focus has always been on the Scouts' discrimination against gays and it seems atheists were always on a back burner or not discussed at all," Polzin told The Christian Century.
Since May 23, when the Scouts voted to allow gay members – but not troop leaders – among their ranks, major organizations for nonbelievers have condemned their continuing exclusion from the organization.
Part of the Scouting oath is to "do my duty to God and my country," which many atheists prefer be changed to "good and my country," a request the BSA has refused.
In addition, some atheist children have been asked to leave troops after it was revealed they did not believe in God. There have been lawsuits filed, but the Supreme Court has ruled that the Boy Scouts is a private organization that can make its own membership rules.

Now that the pervs have gotten their way, Mr. Polzin can rest easy knowing that his particular grievance will be bowed to within the next year or two, tops.

Mr. Polzin, like the homosexuals should just keep their big mouth shut. Maybe he never figured it was no one’s business? Had he kept his mouth closed he’d still be in the scouts.
The BSA is chartered by Congress in the US Code as a Patriotic organization. Scrub them from the Code. What they’ve done violates the law.
I can’t imagine sending any child into a situation where you know that the kid is only there because of lawsuits and legal intimidation and technicalities, and that all the other kids are aware of this. The tormenting that kid will receive will be relentless X 100. I cannot imagine anyone who pledges to genuinely care about our kids, straight or gay, would support this.
As for the Boy Scouts, I hope they can find a way in the future to survive solely on private funding and donation and thrive free market capitalist style and demonstrate their ability to thrive capitalist style. Then they can tell anyone who objects to their G-dly values to play in rush hour traffic.

I am amazed the Scouts approve of homosexual scouts but not agnostic or atheistic scouts.
IMHO, theological discussions and such intellectual interplay is far less damaging that homosexual interactions. But, not my children so -——
Those who theorize about providing good role models to homosexual scouts are correct about the impact of ‘influences’. The question is - who influences whom?
I was in the Scouts in the 1970s and back then we had gay kids in our troop, it was obvious even though I was 12 at the time. The difference was we didn’t focus on it. The problem today is the fascists are demanding the kids DO focus on it. What for? When I was a kid it was “Bobby is a little different” and that was as far as it got. What the liberal fascists are doing today though is the exact opposite of what they say they are doing: They are demanding prejudice.
BSA just chose against God’s (Judeo=Christian) moral code.
They can’t now claim to still follow Him.
