It was the happiest day of Anita Woods life but her science fiction-themed civil partnership landed her in a lot of trouble in reality.
The 46-year-old same-sex ceremony with partner Margaret Wood, held at Swansea Citys Liberty Stadium in 2011, attracted some unwanted attention as the couple and their guests donned costumes inspired by their favourite show Star Trek.
Photos from the unusual gathering were spotted in the local press by investigators looking into fraudulent benefits claims proving Wood had falsely claimed £16,000 as a jobless single person while she was living with her partner who was in full-time employment.
She was then forced to boldy go to court, where the mother-of-two was handed a suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay back all the cash.
Prosecutor Felicity Lewis told Swansea magistrates court: Anita Wood should have declared that she and Margaret Wood were in a civil partnership.
It would have reduced the amount of benefits she was entitled to claim as Margaret Wood was in full-time employment.
Wood, from Swansea, pleaded guilty to six charges of benefit fraud by failing to declare a change in her circumstances. She was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail, suspended for a year.
She told the court her 50-year-old civil partner had not been paying half the bills after moving into her home, only enough to cover her bed and board.
After avoiding jail, she insisted: It wasnt intentional. We had declared Margaret as a non-dependent but not a partner.
I was devastated. My whole family has been affected by it. Ive never done anything wrong in my life, or anyone in my family.
Wood met her partner through an online forum for fans of Star Trek.
At the time of her wedding before she wished she could be beamed up and away Wood spoke of her love of the show: We have always been into the show.
I watched the original series as a child and you just enjoy the escapism and the humour of it all.
of course maybe the writers didn't either >.<
They remind me of The Keepers from Mass Effect.
While the Vorta were in in essence a Stockholm Syndrome Slave Race.
The Keepers are Biological Androids.

Bloody Hell!!
I hope I never meet any of this lot down a dark alley.
What a scary looking bunch!!
Its actually a very narrow lens and they are even fatter than they look in the photo!!!!!!LOL
SOOOOOIE!
They would have dressed as slave Lea.
Can you imagine the lather those thighs whip up in a day!
corny
... to boldly go where no real man would dare to go under any circumstances even if you paid them a billion dollars tax-free
Okay, they went with the wrong sci-fi theme. They should have gone with Star Wars, not Star Trek - then they both could have gone as Jabba the Hut!
I think one of them wanted to be Jabba, and one wanted to be slave costume Leia. Or the Rancor.
I hadn’t considered that.
of course maybe the writers didn’t either >.<
They remind me of The Keepers from Mass Effect.
I never played mass effect, but the SF Debris review of mass effect taught me a LOT about that universe...
Those two brides-or grooms, or whatever-look like waiters on the loveboat in those costumes-or maybe Tweedledum and Tweedledee minus the beanies. At least one of them should have dressed as the fat chick with antennae and 4 hands who played the piano in a bar in an episode of TNG-it would have looked better.
Reunification, Part 1 and 2.....
I am such a geek girl....
I’m a fan since TOS, when I was a teen, and don’t miss a chance to catch one of the movies on TV, or an episode on BBCA, but I’m not really a geek.
The one where Spock went missing, and was found to be working with Romulans who wanted to re-unify with Vulcans, right? I saw that episode on BBCA, but it was awhile ago...
Speak of the devil-”In Theory” is on right now-that is a favorite...
Tha blue chick on the far left is kinda cute...
Those two on the right..well..I guess what they say is true.
Love is blind. Gaaaacccckkkk!!! They do look like they were made for each other.
Last weekend we attending a wedding — a REAL one, lovely young couple, beautiful Christian church service. Surprisingly, my 11 yr old daughter was in tears by the end of the ceremony! I asked her afterward, what gives? She said she felt like it was the first time she really “got what all the words meant.” That is, she was overcome with the power and the gravity (if those are the right words?) of what a wedding/marriage actually is. We had a great talk about it.
Then I see this kind of garbage. I shudder to think this “version” of marriage is what the Left wants to equate to the real thing. Nothing but perverts in costume. Disgusting.
Ah, how sweet.
Slow news day?
