Maybe she wanted to ride with her pet? What’s wrong with that?

I feel fortunate that I experienced childhood and adolescence in the happy days before political correctness—before things like riding in the beds of pickup trucks, stake-bed trucks and station wagons became felonies.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience". It’s probably not a *great* idea to put your kid in the bed of a pickup in *any* sort of carrier, or none at all.
But I bet she was enjoying the heck out of it. I bet she *begged* to ride back there with the dog!
Brings back memories... I pity kids today. They have the latest smart devices to play games on, but I bet the vast majority have never experienced the simple pleasure of riding in the back of a pickup.
