Its raining snakes in Washington, DC
Police reports in the Adams Morgan area of our nations capital detail recent occurrences of snakes falling out of trees and onto children.
Police believe the intimidating inhabitants of Walter Pierce park to be black rat snakes, WTOP reports.
The snakes fell out of trees in a playground near the National Zoo, which caused panic among the children. Black rat snakes are not poisonous, but they do constrict their small prey to kill it. The responding officer was able to capture a small one in a water bottle.
Officials at the zoo said there is nothing to fear from the reptile rain, but they will attempt to protect themselves, according to a National Zoo fact sheet.
They coil their body and vibrate their tails in dead leaves to simulate a rattle, the zoo says. If the snakes continue to be provoked, they will strike.
They tend to grow between four and six feet, with the record length being eight feet. They live in trees, but are most likely falling out of the trees due to an intense heat wave.
There also are sightings of northern brown snakes being reported, which is another non-venomous snake native to the Mid-Atlantic region.
They don’t look big enough to eat Democrats.
Did they come to town to hunt ‘rats like Pelosi and Reid?
The jokes write themselves.
An apt plague.
Sounds good to me.
I believe that is Pelosi
Flies. Waaps. Rats. And now anakes? SOON LOCUSTS. Geez.
They must be tea party snakes.
I like black rat snakes a lot. And the pretty golden brown ones with the intricate markings. And blue racers. And even those cute little garter snakes. I have plenty of them on my property, and occasionally they fall out of the trees with a thump. They look at you and then slither off into the bushes to eat some rodents. And I hate rodents, especially field rats and swamp rabbits. You can spend all summer growing melons, and rodents will chew holes in them and make them unfit for human consumption. On top of that, they carry hanta virus and plague fleas. Thank God for the snakes.
Seriously: what is with the snakes? I live in a town where in 15 years I’ve seen maybe four garter snakes and a water snake.
Last week a friend had two three foot long snakes in his garage, and my daughter saw a small snake dead near our house and this morning I picked up a beautiful milk snake, maybe corn snake, run over, about three feet long again. I LIKE snakes, I was sad it was dead, but where are they coming from?
Earthquake coming?
How can you tell which ones are snakes and which ones are demonic-rats?
ping
As long as they’re eating Democ-RATS, I’m good.
‘RATS and snakes invade Washington. So what else is new?
“Black rat snakes are not poisonous, but they do constrict their small prey to kill it.”
Rattlesnakes aren’t poisonous either. People eat them all the time. They are quite venomous though.
Yep...My favorite is the king snake.
So, were going to see Democrats in Washington, DC added to the endangered species list? That’s a positive. Go snakes!!
