A pit bull was running loose Sunday near the residential area of Mallard Lane when it began attacking another dog that was being walked on a leash by it's owner

My dog and I have been menaced by unattended pits twice while walking.
The first and larger of the two was convinced to leave with 2 blasts of bear spray. It gave no visual indication that the spray affected it other than turning and leaving.
The second pit at another time was much harder to convince taking 3 blasts of bear spray directly to the face at close range. The only indication it gave that it was in discomfort was it crossed the street away from us and began to drag its face through the wet grass at which time we left.
I also got to taste some of the bear spray that night, and it definitely was not fun.
I’m glad I had the spray, I don’t leave home without it while walking. I don’t want to carry my gun, and I don’t want to have to shoot one of these dogs as a result of its negligent owner. People need to keep their vicious animals under tight control.
The bear spray works but you can also use a mixture of a pint or water with a few drops of dish-washing soap and three tablespoons of ammonia.
That mixture will put a dog on the ground in a hurry.
But the bear spray has a longer range
The dog fancier community ought to make the breed extinct.
It actually does not have as long a range as one might think. The can advertises a very long range, 25 ft I think, but it seems to dissipate between 6-8 feet.
I would not want to test this against a charging grizzly at all, ever, for any reason.
It took three blasts over a period of about one minute to convince the second pit to leave. I do not think a grizzly would be so generous with his time.
Have sprayed a beligerant Black Bear with Bear spray, it reacted instantly and cleared out. Came back 20 minutes later.
I have river canes growing on my property and I carry a five foot length with one end cut to a sharp point when I walk. Any dog who gets too close will quickly get my point.
I always make sure that I have a larger pit bull by my side in these situations. Comes in handy...no bear spray needed.
Perhaps it is more effective versus a bear with its super sensitive nose.
It worked on the dogs too, but not as quickly as I would have liked.
I also carry a telescoping baton, but I have never had to use this, and I don’t ever want to. I don’t want to have to do anything that would cause these animals any sort of real or permanent damage.
It really bothers me that people with these type of dogs can be so careless with them. They put people around them and the dog at risk.

People who don't know "its" from "it's" shouldn't try to masquerade as journalists.
That probably is the most misspelled word on FR, too.
A close second would be “loose” for “lose.”
Women for woman is in the top five.
There are likely numerous articles detailing the different uses of its vs it’s.
You could post one, or combine it with the spelling and definition of lose vs loose.
It might help.
It could be posted as a common mistakes or pet peeves article.
Good work.
the only time it’s it’s is when it’s a contraction.
A close second would be loose for lose.
I think loose and lose lose hands-down to there, their, and they’re.

You're right, marktwain.
Ordinary people's grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, style, and the like don't trouble me; indeed, I'd rather see too much informality and idiosyncrasy than too little: they help keep our American language lively and essentially ungovernable.
It aggravates me to see supposed "professional" journalists and editors make illiterate mistakesand reminds me I'm turning into a cranky old fault-finding geezer, too.
Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I will get to work and come up with something and have it in reserve to post when appropriate.
