If I live in a place that has 3 EF4-5 tornadoes in the last 15 years, it is my responsibility to make sure me and my family, including my school aged children, are safe.
The government has no place in mandating a free citizen our business. Don't tell me what kind of shelter I must have.
This CNN whore was grilling Coburn about the government mandate as if it was government's responsibility to protect us from weather. No, if your public school has no shelter and you believe you require it, either raise money or school your own kids at home and build shelters there.
I'm sure big government so called conservatives will join liberals in forcing everybody to have shelters to protect us from our own decisions. Media will focus on sob stories.
How is this any different than the Obamacare?
Government “help” is rendering us helpless.
I agree but we’re long past that already. Seat belt laws, bike helmet regulations, etc. Local and state governments especially already mandate all sorts of building codes. You’re not wrong, but that train has already left the station.
I’m curious. How many shelters could we have put in schools for the amount of money we’ve paid for mooseChelle and zero (& brats) to go on their many vacations?
I do not now but have previously lived in tornado alley. Since that time about 20 years ago, I have learned about monolithic domes. They can be designed to withstand 400 mph winds and over 100 mph projectiles. If I had to live in a tornado area again, I believe I would build one of these.

At the very least, I would be pushing the school board to rebuild the school with at least the gym being a dome.
You should put out your fire.
Why aren’t citizens mandated to carry guns in dangerous cities?
No telling what the people could have done if their tax dollars had been kept local. After all, only local people really know what they want and need.
It irritates the hell out of me that taxpayers nationwide are forced to pay for bike trails in my county. Unfortunately that irresponsibility is a natural result of getting an allowance from Uncle Sugar.
Monolithic dome school.
I saw it. You r right...it was disgusting. I wish they would all get the heck out of Oklahoma. We don’t need them here. Like I really believe she really cares about the people of Oklahoma.
I do not believe wearing seatbelts can reduce accidents. If you are crashing at 70 MPH without the seatbelt, the only person you will be killing is yourself; again, darwin award right there, so no harm and no foul.
If, under very rare circumstances, should your ejected corpse theoretically hit another person and cause injuries or cause damages to property, then it might be a case for the courts.
It still freaks me out to see guys on cycles without helmets here in Michigan. I’d never ride without one but so far I haven’t been injured by those who don’t.
Thanks for the link to monolithic dome construction. Fascinating.
I’m against seat belt laws, but I do thinking wearing them can save your life. The problem is not your driving or my driving, it’s other people. If some girl smacks you head on because she’s putting on makeup, you have a better chance of survival if you have your seatbelt on. It’s smart to buckle up, but the government shouldn’t mandate it.
” I wish they would all get the heck out of Oklahoma. We dont need them here. Like I really believe she really cares about the people of Oklahoma.”
She is a media whore, so she is attracted to disasters and human misery, like flies to sh*t. They will be there until they enact their agenda and exploit all sob stories.
Judging from what I have heard so far, vast majority of Oklahomans do not have shelters from tornadoes. If Oklahomans themselves do not appear to need/want shelters, so why are media whores (and politicians soon to follow) pushing for the mandates?
On a pure libertarian basis you are correct.
It’s the ones that don’t get killed and run up multi-million dollar repair bills and lifetime custodial care at taxpayer expense that are a financial issue.
When I lived there in the 60s, Mich had a mandatory helmet law but not a mandatory helmet wearing law.
About 75% of the bikes had a helmet strapped to the rear fender.
It still freaks me out to see guys on cycles without helmets here in Michigan.”
Those would be called organ donors.
The answer that Coburn should have given is that if the democrats had not spent so many billions on globull warming scam and green company scams....all if their hollywood cronies....and federal union pensions and perks...there would be plenty of money to give state grants for shelters in tornado prone mid west Oklahoma.
That would have shut her up cold. That is what I would have done...lol.
“Its the ones that dont get killed and run up multi-million dollar repair bills and lifetime custodial care at taxpayer expense that are a financial issue.”
There is because there are parasitic laws that force hospitals to treat those who cannot afford their treatments. If you do not wear seatbelts and cannot afford medical care for a vehicular accident, then you should not be behind a vehicle. The laws protect the societal parasites and punish those who should be protected. To address the effect of the pre-existing parasitic laws, more parasitic laws are added.
