Vision, if I'd have known what an investment this new house was, I'd have opted for a three-room shack in the hills somewhere. We've already had the contractors put in a new chimney for the kitchen wood stove, remodel my bathroom here in the Viking's Den, run new plumbing all over the place, rewire several rooms, and they'll be back next week to paint all the exterior wood. And I don't even want to detail the pool - the new pump alone set me back $300, and it'll be another $2,000 for them to complete the guts of the pool itself. (Never seen one with a 4' shallow end and a 12' deep end. It's an in-ground lagoon.) We buy the materials - their labor is paid for by the 203k escrow, so it's that much less I have to do myself. But we'll never get though the laundry list of everything we want to do in one season. It'll be a small kingdom unto itself when it's done, but I may not be coherent enough to enjoy it when it's complete. LOL I'm going to need a long vacation in a rest home if I can plow through all of this. Plus, we have coyotes now. And they sit just beyond the scope of the floodlights in back at night, and howl at 2 AM. A month ago, I was worried about completing the garden fence to keep the deer out of the garden after we till it. Now I keep the 12 gauge loaded and the cats away from the windows after dark.
That is a nice radio. I'd truly love to get an old floor console unit of just about any make or model, and make a restoration project of it. Granted, this one is of more recent vintage:
But, she found it for $20 at an antiques mall (we frequent this place for a lot of higher-end treasure), so I can't complain. It's of my Dad's era, when he was fully an AM radio broadcaster. He'd have been 80 next spring, and would have loved to see this in his den.

You really have your hands full, Viking, and I’m glad you do! It’s a blessing. It’s good to see you again.

That’s a nice one. Great find!
The main thing to do in these old tube radios, is to replace all the electrolytic capacitors.

Electrolytic capacitors in a tube radio? Did I miss something in Electronics 101? Or are you just pulling my anode?
Busted!

That does sound like a lot. Good luck. At least everyone is safe.

Oh, man. If I gotta go that retro, I'm gonna need to get out some good, old-fashioned textbooks again. This ought to be fun.

I have to admit that I can’t tell if you’re pulling my leg or not.

Semi. I've been performing triage for pay on computers for too long. My brain blue-screened and I forgot about those old grain-silo caps they used to put in equipment back in the day. It brought back memories of going to Radio Shack and buying parts for whatever castoff stuff someone gave to me when I was 13 years old. What a time warp. If I remember correctly (and I hope I do), my mom still has an old tube hi-fi system of Dad's in storage in the attic. It had a separate turntable, pre-amp, tuner, speakers, and a couple other components to it. No cabinets - just the chassis and brushed gold front panels. I wish I could remember the brand, but now my juices are going and I'll have to e-mail her and ask if it's still there. Probably 1950's vintage, if you can throw a few names at me. We gotta go back about four decades here.

I’m with you Viking, my brain seems to be in a continual time warp lately.
If you are interested in these machines of days gone by, this is a really good place to start. Some of it is elementary that you can skip, but it’s a pretty good radio tech course from 1948.
Hat tip to the boys who spent the time to put it out there.

If you can get through this, you will have a lot of knowledge.
Like old age, it ain’t for sissies.
I earned an AA Electronics degree. This course BLOWS it away.
