Back when we fought wars with the intention of winning and coming home. Today’s NY Slimes would be moaning about the deaths and wondering what the “Nazi Street” would think of our imperialist tactics.

Interesting article about the capture of Baron Gottfried von Cramm in Tunisia. Cramm had been sentenced by the Nazis in 1938 to a 1 year prison sentence for having a Jewish lover. I believe the sentence was reduced to 5 months.

I wonder why FDR denied Cramm, the anti-Nazi who had previously been imprisoned by the Nazis for having a Jewish lover entrance to into the US in 1939?

May 18, 1943:

"British and American tank troops continued to score victories in Tunisia even though German troops, led by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and General Jürgen von Arnim, fought fiercely.
News of the huge defeat at Stalingrad, Russia, demoralized some German soldiers, who began to realize that the war might be lost.
Here, a German prisoner, captured near Sejenane in northern Tunisia, holds his hands high as he is searched."

Former Crown Prince Georg dies after crossing the Nazis while serving as a Jesuit priest. Was it a drowning? A heart attack? In any event, let’s label it ‘natural causes’ and move on. I do feel sorry for the woman he left standing at the altar.

That Franciscan poverty thing proved a bit much, and he switched to the Jesuits.

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about today’s news is that a journalist, Guy Bettany, alerted the government about a useful military tactic, almost as if he wanted his side to win. Now that the journalists are all credentialed and objective, such a thing is hard to imagine.
