Walt Disney Cos ABC network is tapping its blockbuster Avengers franchise for a new TV show, looking to reverse a ratings decline that put it last of the four largest networks among audiences coveted by advertisers.
The network is so confident in Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that it scheduled the show on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. eastern time, where it will face off against TVs top-rated scripted show, CBS crime juggernaut NCIS.
ABC plans to air a total eight new shows this fall, according to a schedule of its Fall lineup that was released by the network. It will also retool its long-running hit Dancing with the Stars, cutting it back from two nights to one after its ratings weakened.
Its S.H.I.E.L.D. offering is ABCs first effort to translate the big-screen success of Disneys Marvel comics movie franchise to television.

ABCGLBTDisney? Which character will come out of the closet first?
It’ll probably do pretty well. It’s gluing onto a very successful movie franchise, that’s got a strong following. The only real question is how will they hook each episode, what are they going to be doing. But since it’s all under the same umbrella as the movies, and given Joss’ skill at building a bad guy over the course of a season, it’ll probably work well as a build up/ ad for the next movie.
Let’s see. From Joss Whedon, spun-off from multiple Hollywood blockbusters, big pre-debut fan base, combines elements of The Man From UNCLE and X-Files.
Oh, yeah. It’s got bomb written all over it.
Depends on what characters are going to show up in this series. Enough Marvel characters are “out” already.
Against NCIS.
That could work. NCIS has grown stale. Now they are trying another spin-off, and it just doesn’t have much uumph to it.
So, which one(s) is the gay, transgendered, conflicted over which sex it is?
