Why would a Starfleet admiral ask a 300-year-old frozen man for help? asks Captain Kirk in his latest adventure and, after sitting through two-plus hours of the mind-numbing Star Trek Into Darkness, damned if I could tell you why.

Voyager would have benefited from a more attractive actress playing the Captain.
Just like you’d want the first female President to be hot.
The Star Trek films were a bit uneven, with Shatner’s directorial endeavor being the worst IMO.
I enjoyed the reboot and have my tickets for Friday night already.
I think the resetting of the timeline was genius; let’s see what else Abrams does.
I’d settle for competent.
Well that’s called aging. Childhood heroes are always larger in life. I don’t like the meet and greets of the modern commercial cons, I’m not going up to Phoenix this weekend even though most of the surviving B5 cast (best show ever) will be there. For a non-commercial, actually spend time with people convention I’d go to meet Urban, but I’d want to discuss Judge Dredd, which he killed at. I think he’s a great Bones but he was magnificent as Dredd (which I’m hoping made enough international money for a sequel).
Many people feel many things. But that doesn’t mean their feelings are a reflection of reality. When I saw the movie with my buddy I turned to him at the end and said “we’ve got Trek back”, his reply was that it had all the adventure of TOS. Then I took my mom (who hadn’t bothered with a Trek movie since FC) and she loved it, she said they’d gotten back to “boldly going”. So for my group we consider it a much more real Trek than we’ve had in 20+ years.
They didn’t toss off the fans like you. They realized there weren’t enough of you to keep the franchise going. Kowtowing to the old canon was causing them constantly diminishing returns. The franchise needed new life. It needed to get BOLD again, it needed to stop being Star Debate and actually do some Treking. And now it’s alive. And anybody that doesn’t like it has 28 seasons at 10 movies they can watch on DVD.
When I see Urban, I don’t see him as McCoy... I see him as Gary Mitchell. Quinto comes close to capturing the look, but it’s soulless. The rest look and act nothing like the characters. Zoe Saldana is hot, but she doesn’t look or act anything like Uhura. Gabourey Sidibe probably would’ve done no worse, and at least doesn’t look like a space cheerleader.
As for the rest, my opinion of Faux Trek is unchanged.
Sounds like another overhyped box office failure.
I have not been to a theater since last fall, and then half of those blockbusters I did not see in the theater I also passed up buying on disc.
They’re not supposed to be the same, new actor, new times, they’re supposed to do their thing. Again look at all the different Bonds, the only two that are at all alike are Dalton and Brosnan and that’s because Dalton built his entire career on being a poor man’s version of Brosnan.
It’s your opinion, but it’s not faux is real. It’s closer to TOS and more entertaining than anything they’ve done since TNG started.
Dalton and Brosnan alike ? What ? Dalton was an established actor long before Brosnan came along. He was considered for Bond in the late ‘60s when he was just in his 20s. Brosnan was more like Roger Moore. But Connery was still the definitive Bond. However, you haven’t had a string of actors playing Kirk, you had Shatner. His “replacement” is anything but up to the task. A teenage-looking, whiny weenie, a Captain Charlie X. Shatner’s Kirk was a MAN. He would’ve slapped that child right out of the center seat.
...and Faux Trek is still Faux Trek.
Dalton got the Bond job because Brosnan wasn’t available. And that wasn’t the first time.
We hadn’t had a string of actors play Kirk YET. If a franchise continues on everybody will get replaced eventually. As for Shatner’s Kirk being a “MAN” I refer you again to “I am Kirok”.
And you’re still full of crap every time you call it faux Trek. It’s just a catchphrase used in place of facts to spur your pointless whining.
Brosnan is almost a decade younger than Dalton. Dalton was approached for the role between the late ‘60s and early ‘70s when he was already an established actor. Brosnan was in college in that period, so your assertion that Brosnan was offered the role first is ludicrous. What you are mistaking is that producers hoped to have Brosnan succeed Moore in the ‘80s, but because of contractual obligations when Brosnan was on “Remington Steele”, they went back to offer the job to Dalton.
As for the rest, you need to knock off your ‘whiny’ schtick whenever you feel you’re losing an argument. It’s tiresome and makes you sound like a petulant liberal (or that kid playing Fake Kirk in Faux Trek). ;-)
You just said exactly what I said, they wanted Brosnan, they couldn’t get him, they gave it to Dalton.
It’s not my fault you’re whining. If don’t want me pointing it out stop. I haven’t lost an argument, there’s nothing to argue. You’re just stomping your feet and yelling “faux trek faux trek faux trek”, that’s not an argument, that’s whining. Funny the guy being a petulant child saying somebody else is being petulant.
You made the bizarre comment about Dalton somehow “built his entire career on being a poor mans version of Brosnan.” It was strange given that Dalton was an actor and star when Brosnan was an unknown schoolboy. Dalton was also a far superior actor. He was the last actor that was a decent Bond. Brosnan was insufferably smug still doing Remington Steele as Bond and Daniel Craig is ludicrously miscast as an emotionless, charmless thug.
Seriously, Stu, you need to learn how to govern your emotions when faced with someone with a differing opinion of your beloved Faux Trek. Let it go, man.
All of which is besides the point that every actor to play Bond has done it differently. This is how movie and TV franchises are supposed to work, actors come, actors go, everybody puts their own spin on it, they aren’t supposed to pretend to be the previous guy.
I’ve got no emotions in this. Again that’s all from you. You’re the guy all devastated because they “ruined” Trek. I’m pointing out that what you consider “ruined” is actually a damn site better than most of what preceded it, and calling it “faux” is just emotionalism in place of an argument. As I’ve said the problem isn’t your opinion, I don’t give a good $#% damn if you like, but you constantly go way past opinion, often into insult. Don’t like it all you want, your problem, but when you start saying anybody that likes it is dumb that’s just you being a jerk and emotional.
Take your own advice. There’s a new Trek out there, it’s better and moire popular than most of what came before LET IT GO MAN.
Stu. You're getting like this fella. Please... Let it go. Faux Trek ain't worth throwing a hissy over like you're doing here.
We’ll just add that to your other quotes here:
“for folks that like the cheap, the shallow and the shiny, with a few explosions thrown in.
Revenge of the Star Wars fanbois.
Trek for dumb, horny teenagers with short attention spans, low IQs and who are distracted by shiny lens flare.”
And supposed I’m the guy throwing a hissy fit. Sorry all the fitting is coming from you. Every post is just another instalment in your temper tantrum. That gif IS you.
Stu... I figure you’re enraged because you resemble the remarks ? One more post of yours and you’re gonna be down to one hanging eyeball.
I’m not enraged. I’m laughing at you.
You know another way to tell you lost an argument: you turn it into a discussion on the other person.
It’s REAL Trek. “LET IT GO MAN”
I know, Stu. You lost it from the moment I said Faux Trek. Step back, take a breath, go listen to some Donna Summer. Ponder the concept that not everyone worships JJ Abrams and his megaturd drop like you do. You're way too emotionally attached to those poseurs. Chill, bra. Toodles.
You don't need to worship Abrams to realize his Trek movies are far superior in most objectively measurable categories to all previous Trek movies. I know this gets you all worked up but life is like that sometimes.
No losing it. You’re hilarious. Every post is minutes of laughter. But it’s uncool of me to get all this laughter from you and not give any back.
