Eating more insects could help fight world hunger, according to a new UN report.
The report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization says that eating insects could help boost nutrition and reduce pollution.
It notes than over 2 billion people worldwide already supplement their diet with insects.
However it admits that "consumer disgust" remains a large barrier in many Western countries.
Wasps, beetles and other insects are currently "underutilised" as food for people and livestock, the report says. Insect farming is "one of the many ways to address food and feed security".
"Insects are everywhere and they reproduce quickly, and they have high growth and feed conversion rates and a low environmental footprint," according to the report. Nutritional value
The authors point out that insects are nutritious, with high protein, fat and mineral content.
They are "particularly important as a food supplement for undernourished children".

I used to think Soilent Green was fiction but we now have a government with no constitutional limits to prevent such a food supplement/replacement being foisted on us.
When they completely abolish guns, outside of trapping animals bugs and Soilent Green may be the only options.
Time to end the UN—it has outlived any use it has—toss the freeloaders out of New York and send them back to Europe.

“At Soylent, our past is your future!
Soylent was founded in 1999 by food scientist Mark Harthaw and oceanographer Jackson Fine. Together, they discovered the revolutionary Soylent process of extracting vital proteins from the bountiful plankton population of the Pacific Ocean. Harthaw and Fine took the company public in 2012 when a large increase in population combined with rising temperatures and sea levels led to the exhaustion of traditional food sources. The demand for Soylent proteins was on, and it has only grown stronger as the years have gone by. Now, in 2022, Soylent Corporation is the single largest producer of foodstuffs for 90% of the worlds population. Everyday, billions of people all over the world enjoy affordable, nutritious Soylent products, the food of the future!
To further serve the public good, Soylent Corporation opened their first waste disposal plant in 2015. Now, Soylent operates over fifteen thousand such plants worldwide, proving clean, efficient waste disposal at a fraction of the cost of traditional public works. Recently, Soylent Corp. has gone even further, compensating customers for their organic trash and inorganic recyclables. Now, as humanity presses boldly towards a bright future, Soylent Corporation stands at the edge of innovation, both abroad and at home. Soylent; feeding the world, one person at a time.”
Bloomburg needs to ban all food deliveries except bugs at UN building.
“Our program today is brought to you by Soylent Grub(tm) and Soylent Tarantula(tm), high energy insect concentrates, and new, delicious, Soylent Cockroach(tm). The miracle food of high-energy insects gathered from the pest holes of the world.”
“Gee, mom. Could I have a big bowl of crunchy Soylent Earwigs(tm) in melamine-milk? I just love that sweet Sucralose(tm) earwig taste! Delicious and nutritious!”
I remember a co-worker of mine who when asked one time why he didn't eat chicken responded "because the little f.....rs eat s..t!"
It took me about five minutes of getting over a severe laughing fit before I could get back to work.
I’ve eaten wasps and grasshoppers, and they are quite delicious, but not as an every day garnish. Sautéed ants, grasshoppers, beetles, etc are really nice on top of rice. If you are shy of bugs, perhaps a little balut in your diet might do the trick.
Looks like this guy don't mind...!
There is a lot of fat on the cockroaches that inhabit all the federal buildings in Washington!
That is a good idea.
“Let them eat bugs!”
If I had to eat insects to stay alive, I’d bid my mortal coil adieu.
Bloomberg’s part of it... he’d be all for it, for the rest of us.
He’s as big a POS as any of them.
put a little honey glaze or good bbq sauce on it, I’ll eat almost anything
I eat and enjoy chicken. Chickens eat a lot of ticks (not insects actually but arachnids), I imagine theyll happily eat insects too.
Insects as animal feed supplement might be a good use. Eating
them directly; Id rather go vegan.

I’m looking toward the same thing when I get my farm up and running ,,, raising a few billion insects (meal worms) as food for chickens and the fish pond.
have a cousin who has been thru the waves of trends,, built a large corn distillation facility in a barn for energy show’n’tell’,, it folded,, then he was into fish emulsion,, finally ended up in politics, what can I say, he had a passion another cousin (one sharp cookie) of mine passed away pursuing.
not sure how much money is in bugs futures but my cousin would probably already be there if it was worth a darn.
Meanwhile, the Lear Jet Leftists will continue to enjoy the finest food the planet has to offer.
Guess what this entrepreneur sells to the large number of pet chicken owners?
I’ve always thought the same about catfish and lobster. We’re just one step removed from eating crap. And no, I have never cleaned a chicken, but I have performed bovine artificial insemination and delivery. (as in the movie “City Slickers”).
