Hmmmmm ... this calls for some detective work. I cannot find anything offensive about skin tone here.

Never? I’m sure 10 years ago, people were saying that a Muslim Communist from Kenya would never be elected president.

If we can have Kenyan president we can have Redskins football team.

Is it okay if I still call them...”The Washington Scumbags”?

Hallelujah for somebody with the guts to tell the scumbag Democrats to take their political correctness and go play in the street.

The Redskins name is very offensive ... to white liberals. But it is all pretend offense.

I Love It, when people refuse to toe the PC line in the dirt! My favorite name for the Washington Redskins was always the Washington Dead-skins but am seeing no dead skin on those ladies. Also always called the Dallas Cowboys the Dallas Plow-boys but well I'll be quiet about the ladies; someone might get the wrong idea. Thanks DogByte6RER. No offense to anyone.

Growing up, I had learned that it was the French who taught the Indians how to scalp people. It was during the time of the French and Indian War, and the French paid the Indians to attack the British (soldiers and colonists)
The Washington Redskins were once the Boston Redskins. This name was chosen because there had been a tribe in the Boston area that used to paint themselves red while going into battle (during colonial times).
Was any of this true?

The PC commie lib crowd needs to give it up and leave “the ‘skins” alone. Go harass the farmers who grow red skin potatoes for a while.

The PC liberals can seriously go # themselves. Their idiotic, puritan goals are expunging an American heritage we’ve normally regarded as favorable to “native Americans”.
When oh when can we inflict the necessary hurt on the Left?

Ignorance. Redskin does not refer to the skin color of a race of people. Rather, some Indian warriors before battle applied red ochre to their face and upper body as war paint.

It’s been years since the Skins have been offensive. That’s awesome! Now of they can just keep RG3 healthy and work on those darn defensive backs they might have a chance...

Gee, I always thought teams named themselves after something they admired. Should be an honor to have a team named after you.
My bad.

The solution to this is so simple. Keep the name and put Mr. Potato Head on the Helmet.

I’m still p.o.’d we’re called CATHOLICS - we’re just universal Christians labelled by protestantism so they could point at us and not use a cussword (damn prudes).

I just may have to root for the Redskins this year to show my support. (Because, lets face it, the Jets aren’t going anywhere #sameoldjets.)

Is this really a "controversy" ---
Let's go to the replay:
"...under fire from some critics..." How many critics? 2, 3... Who are these "critics?" What do they do for a living? Are they members of the "Wannabe" Tribe? (and isn't "tribe" a racist term? )
"...recent Associated Press poll found that..." Ohhhh! A recent poll. Ain't nuthin more accurate than a "recent poll."
"...Critics of the name have launched legal action..." Those pesky "critics" again, and this time they have money to "launch" a legal action, is that like Bill Clinton launching an intern?
The local paper is full of "controversies" - otherwise known as some minor issue that's gotten a burr up some liberal's rectal area. But I repeat myself...

You have to search far and wide to find the word “redskins” used in 18th and 19th Century documents. The word really used by settlers at the time was “redn#**@rs.”
