I was ordered not to look at it one time. Yeah, I looked.

I got to watch the pilots suit up (more like astronauts) and perform a night time takeoff, while at Beale. Wicked cool!
The greatest aircraft there ever was. The Aurora might take that honor but I don’t know if it exists or not.
Very cool, thanks for posting.
To depressing to look at.
At one time we could DO things like that - today we can’t even keep highways in good repair. From a time when NO was not taken for an answer to any challenge, to a time when WE CAN’T is the answer to almost everything worth doing.
That’s what happens when you take people that were not qualified to be anything more than “Miss Grease Rack” back then and entrust them with leadership positions today.
Sigh.
No kidding. Height of the can do era. Sigh.......
Awesome.
I touched one once, after it was already out of commission, sitting on the tarmac at Offutt as a museum piece.
My uncle, now deceased, worked on those planes as an electronic technician. Lockheed thought enough of him so that they elevated him to an engineer just before he retired. Better retirement. He would board a plane with painted windows, the plane would circle a few times to disorient the passengers, then off to area 51. God Bless him he died at age 95 last year. I miss him a lot as he was a stablizing figure in our lives.
Great story and cool pics....
Thanks for posting!!
Thanks for posting this! An acquaintance of mine who worked on the project got a kick out of the photos.
One thing about the SR-71 it got from here to there quickly and was never damaged in flight during its missions over hostile territory.
BEAT me to it!
