To depressing to look at.
At one time we could DO things like that - today we can’t even keep highways in good repair. From a time when NO was not taken for an answer to any challenge, to a time when WE CAN’T is the answer to almost everything worth doing.
That’s what happens when you take people that were not qualified to be anything more than “Miss Grease Rack” back then and entrust them with leadership positions today.
Sigh.
That could be said again and again.

On a similar note, IIRC the Saturn rockets used for the Apollo missions could not be made today - the plans are lost. OTOH, a local company is working on fusion propulsion.
Ergo my theorm that America peaked in 62' and after they took God out of the schools, Kennedy allowed Unionized State and Federal workers, and after his brother Teddy helped Fubar immigration in 65' or 66' it was all over....
Isn’t that the truth? The Golden Gate Bridge was built in the 30s and is going strong. Today, CalTrans totally botched the new Bay Bridge span because the earthquake safety bolts are all embrittled with hydrogen. They don’t have a clue how to fix the partially-completed structure. What a mess we are in today.
