I got to watch the pilots suit up (more like astronauts) and perform a night time takeoff, while at Beale. Wicked cool!

I was temp stationed at Beale with our KC-135Q (we called it “queer”) as it had special tanks aboard for the JP-7 fuel while our aircraft used JP-4.

We used to watch them take off! Straight down the runway, the straight up till out of sight!

We also saw one coming in for a landing, then a puff of smoke and lots of firetrucks headed for the end of the runway.
