Old cigarette smoke catching device?
Posted on 05/01/2013 9:07:37 PM PDT by Feline_AIDS
I remember many years ago there was a machine on the market that (I think) was designed to reduce second-hand smoke. You inserted a real cigarette into the small device, and the device burned the cigarette for you and caught all the smoke that didn't come through the filter. Again, I think--I never used one.
Does anyone recall the name of this product?
Thanks in advance, FA

I believe it was called the smokeless ashtray. I seriously doubt that it really worked.

Old cigarette smoke catching device?
I think that's traditionally been called a "lung."

I see that it sounds like the smokeless ashtray, which I hadn’t really heard of before today.
This thing I’m describing was designed to be held in your hand while you smoked. The cigarette was put into a cigarette-sized hole, and only the filter stuck out. You held the whole device up to your face to smoke from the filter sticking out. The only smoke produced was expired by the smoker.

Does anyone recall the name of this product? They called it a huge failure.

“The only smoke produced was expired by the smoker.”
I think that’s mostly what smokes up the room anyway.

You can always take a cup with a bit of ice in it, cover the top with aluminum foil, poke a hole in it for the cigarette, leaving the filter sticking out of the hole, and the ice catches the smoke..
I used to do that when I was sneaky smoking as a teenager..five hundred years ago...

LOL. Indeed. Back in the 70s my mom got one because she hated dad’s cigarette smoke. When he tried to use it, if he set his cigarette in it for a few seconds it burned through half the cigarette.

If E-cigarettes are out of the question, there's a new gizmo called the 'Personal Nicotine Vaporizer' and they are supposedly a gazillion times better than E-cigarettes. They are filled with nicotine liquid and smokers find them far more satisfying then E-cigarettes. It's all the rage.
http://www.veppocig.com/vetta-personal-vaporizer/ They sell them in some tobacco shops now and I believe it's not regulated like cigarettes are.

California is trying to put the same regulations on Vaporizers as they have on Cigarettes.
