Would an antimatter apple fall upward from the earth?

...

Theorists think that ordinary matter and antimatter, which annihilate when they come into contact with each other, were generated in equal quantities during the Big Bang. But there must be some differences between the two types of matter, they also think, because otherwise matter and antimatter would have canceled each other out completely and there would be no universe.

Scientists at CERN are making atoms of antihydrogen to try to pin down what those differences might be.

But they're also willing to consider the possibility that the ideas were wrong in the first place, said Joel Fajans, a professor of physics at UC Berkeley and a member of the ALPHA team. For example, he said, theory suggests that the universe must be filled with dark matter and dark energy, but no one has seen either one.

"We think it's there, but it's almost an embarassment that we don't have evidence for it yet," Fajans said. "There's the faintest possibility that the theories are fundamentally wrong."

One way to change the theories and make them work would be to allow for antigravity.

Yet another thing to keep me awake at night.

No, it would pretty much interact with the atmosphere of normal matter and convert at 100% efficiency and rip most of the atmosphere off of the planet, along with large parts of the crust, and maybe some of the mantle.

Even cooks know that much. I NEVER ordered the anti-matter apples, and if they showed up on the back dock, I'd send them back without opening the box.

If apple fell up we would never get new apple trees. Apples have lived to around 150 years. So after a few hundred years all we would have to eat but be potatoes and onions. Life on earth would end soon afterward because every one would be fat and have bad breath. Well this is my theory.

Antimatter still has normal gravity. We’ve been playing with it for quite a while, and if it reacted oppositely we’d know.

Now an antimatter apple on the Bizarro world...

Didn’t know it responded to gravity; that’s interesting. I had expected it to continue straight-line as though we weren’t even here.

Well we have to look at the anti-logic particle, the Democrat. It goes against all logic yet as we have seen with Michael Moore it’s mass can still dent the earth through gravity.

As to the first, this is perhaps a presumption, but it is axiomatic in Einstein's theory, in which gravity depends only on mass-energy.

As to the second, I can't say that no one has ever observed the gravitational behavior of anti-matter, but I can say that it is not implicit in the usual observations, which involve speeds and time scales which relegate gravity to the fringe of observabilty. I recall there was an experiment which trapped an anti-proton in a magnetic bottle for long time scales, i.e. days and weeks, but the confinement forces are huge compared to gravity, so there would be essentially no difference in this experiment if it were, or had been, in the bay of the space shuttle, say.

Depends on how far you want to push pi(e)?

“Scientists at CERN are making atoms of antihydrogen to try to pin down what those differences might be.”

May I ask, what are they making the antihydrogen atoms from ?

in which gravity depends only on mass-energy.

Maybe anti-gravity depends only on anti-mass(matter)-energy ?

Took forever to sort through recipe cards, but apparently, you smack electrons together really, really hard (MeV hard) and sometimes, one of them becomes an anti-electron.

I never had the practical exam on that, so I'm much better on the bread recipes and the sauce and soup recipes.

You want fries with that?

No, it would fall to earth and blow up the planet.
Now, an anti-gravity apple would fall up.
