MCDONALD, Pa., - Police in Pennsylvania said they responded to a report of two men burning something in a shed and discovered an alleged moonshine making operation.
McDonald police said Midway residents called officers to their neighborhood April 11 with a report of neighbors burning something in a shed and one witness told police he suspected they were making moonshine because he had seen a man loading Mason jars into a vehicle, The (Washington, Pa.) Observer reported Tuesday.
Police said they entered the shed to discover Matthew Zirwas III, 33, and Matthew Kirks, 29, operating what appeared to be an ethanol or moonshine distillery.
Police said the man admitted they had been making moonshine in the shed.
Zirwas and Kirks were both charged with five counts of reckless endangerment and one count each of failure to have a license to make liquor, illegal possession of liquor, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana.
They weren’t making moonshine; they were pickling corn.
Two comments:
1) Was there a Kennedy involve?
2) I teach a college biochemistry course. My students ferment and then distill a small amount of ethanol from sugar. The students all want to take home their brew, even though I explain how unsafe it would be. It’s a fun lab, maybe I should pass out some fake beards next time.
IRA ... IRS ... a distinction without a difference.
Given the current MSM/Obama Admin/university communist style mentality “ira” was probably correct.
it’s not illegal to make wine or beer at home
just whiskey for some reason
At that time cash was very scarce on the frontier. Spirits were often used in lieu of cash. The distillers of this area would have paid the tax in spirits, but the Federal Gov’t. demanded (non-existant) cash.
Also, as the biggest distiller of spirits in those then United States, Washington had a vested interest in keeping down the competition.
All other problems being solved, let’s crack down on dudes making their own hooch...
Jimmy Carter signed the law that made it legal to make wine and beer at home for personal consumption. Bout the only thing he did right.
Distilling alcohol without a permit is still illegal, even for personal consumption.
Moonshining was invented here in Western PA.
Except we called it the Whiskey Rebellion.
First time a Revenuer would get tarred and feathered.
Second time he’d be shot.
Nowadays, beer and wine is okay, but distilled spirits are not legal without federal permission, not even for your own consumption.
Jack Daniel became a prosperous teenager during CWI by selling to both sides of the conflict.
When SHTF that’s my plan also.
Beer and wine yes, no for distilled alcohol.
Is that Popcorn?
Now that, is a beautiful thing.
