Experts have warned that parents who allow babies and toddlers to access tablet computers for several hours a day are in danger of causing dangerous long term effects.
The youngest known patient being treated in the UK is a four-year-old girl from the South East.
Her parents enrolled her for compulsive behaviour therapy after she became increasingly distressed and inconsolable when the iPad was taken away from her.
Her use of the device had escalated over the course of a year and she had become addicted to using it up for to four hours a day.
Dr Richard Graham, who launched the UKs first technology addiction programme three years ago, said he believed there were many more addicts of her age.

We have a much cheaper method in our house of dealing with tantrums. Its called a spanking. It costs nothing and of course if they want to cry and scream I can last the best of them out. I’m sorry but this is just a sign of incapable parents. The same type that rush off to have their little kids put on drugs for attention deficit disorder. It isn’t a wonder we are raising a generation that not only can not reason beyond a pop culture meme but think posers like Pres Obama are presidential. These type of parents are raising a generation of pathetic weak adult babies.
“If you don’t stop crying I will give you something REALLY to cry about”
Worked for me everytime....
How is this different than any other toy or blanket or precious stuffed animal.
It isn’t.
Baloney. I have 2 great granddaughters who are now 4 and 5. They have had iPads for a few years. The 4 year old is reading and sounding out letters. I have never been around a 4 year old as smart as she is. Her touch is way ahead of others her age. We talk among ourselves what her teachers will do with her in a class. The 5 year old will start kindergarten at a private school this fall. Of course they do not play with them hours at a time. They learned from the beginning that their iPads were not toys so they take care of them. They are not Internet connected but they do have pages and pages of puzzles, books, games, and other learning tools. It is a lot easier for everyone concerned having the iPad to take along on trips than a ton of stuff like I had to do with their grandmother. One other thing, they know how to add and subtract. Why put kids in front of a tv when they have learning tools they love?
I guess one difference is my mom didn’t take me to therapy for pitching a fit when she said it was bedtime and took my toy away.
Idiot parents.
Would have gotten a Zero Gb invisible phone if she were mine.
;’)
They’ll become addicted to the Apple cult.
Having an iPad does not make one smart. The truth is that technology is useful when used in its proper context. Toddlers do not have that context. Reading to your children ( real books not these e things), helping them learn things that children should learn (how to play, colors, language, behavior, etc) are things best done by an involved parent.
Long trips are an opportunity for children to identify cards and signs and local scenery. Somethings that have been around for decades. Technology for children in this age range is laziness on the parents part. It is no better than putting a video on the screen (at home or in the car) to keep their children occupied
Sorry but you do not have a clue as to what their parents do at other times. All of us spend time reading, etc to them and have ever since they were born. They go for walks in the park or neighborhood and the parents if the 5 year old take her on camping trips where they teach her things about nature. I doubt if very many city kids go camping and eat squirrel that was killed and dressed right before it was eaten. They were certain she would say yucky to the squirrel but she loved it. She had already eaten deer hours after it was killed and dressed. Guess the next thing is going to be turkey. Shoot, I thought my granddaughter would say no to the deer and squirrel but she loved it too. iPads are wonderful for these girls who soak up knowledge. The schools here in a high tech city have laptops for students and a lot of them have parents who think, they will break theirs so they go to school being behind at the start of school. My late husband who worked with computers when they were the size of refrigerators would be very happy that these 2 little girls have his interest in them. We all laugh when we remember how when they were 1 and 2 going to their grandmother who had her iPad out working saying, “puter, Mamie, puter.”. They love them and are learning so much. It is simply amazing how fast they learn but everyone teaches them. You may not like this but it works for all of us and we are thankful they have them. And, for your info, the adults involved with them are not lazy. Far from it.
