Family ripped from their home at gunpoint; Police storm the property looking for terrorists

Friday, April 19, 2013, during a manhunt for a bombing suspect, police and federal agents spent the day storming people's homes and performing illegal searches. While it was unclear initially if the home searches were voluntary, it is now crystal clear that they were absolutely NOT voluntary. Police were filmed ripping people from their homes at gunpoint, marching the residents out with their hands raised in submission, and then storming the homes to perform their illegal searches.

This was part of a larger operation that involved total lockdown of the suburban neighbor to Boston. Roads were barricaded and vehicle traffic was prohibited. A No-Fly Zone was declared over the town. People were "ordered" to stay indoors. Businesses were told not to open. National Guard soldiers helped with the lockdown, and were photographed checking IDs of pedestrians on the streets. All the while, police were performing these disgusting house-to-house searches.

I’m sorry that you’ve lost sight of the difference between the legitimate use of government force, which is to protect the lives of the people, and illegitimate use of that force.

The answer is that in this particular case they were dealing with someone with a proven willingness and capability to kill mass numbers of innocents, including children. Shoot, he was even willing to drive over the top of his own brother, apparently. They could not afford to let him get away, if they could help it. This situation was about as exigent as it gets, frankly.

So why not use a tracking dog and catch or kill him the night before? Surely with the multimillions spent on law enforcement they could have located one of these mutts. Neutralizing him ASAP before he could kill someone else would be top priority one would think.

Hello?

If someone shot up a crowd of people and sped away, and if the police were pursuing him, they would not be required to get warrants to do so. They would also not have to get warrants to pursue him onto private property. Shoot, they don’t even have to do that for much lesser crimes.

sheesh, show us the police effort that caught the guy, not a private citizen that showed the police where he was.
I’m glad they found him, they risked their lives in this situation, but I’m terribly uncomfortable with shutting down a whole city this way, much less the house to house search.

You bring up a completely different scenario and concept. That would be Fresh Pursuit / Hot Pursuit doctrine. I am talking about a violent felony suspect who evades police in a neighborhood. It is a common event where I worked until recently.

Your posts seem to indicate that you support having the entire force go door to door conducting home searches under those circumstances.

He was totally correct because Government, nor it's armed agents, will ever create real safety.

Government's authority is for apprehending alleged criminals/traitors and administering justice according to our Constitution and judicial system.

Are there any limits to this authority?

And when the cops arrived, they fired _how_many_ rounds at the boat, stopping him via...failed suicide attempt?
