An American passport grants its holder access to nearly every country in the world. In 2012, U.S. citizens and nationals could travel to 166 countries visa-free or with visa on arrival, including most countries in Europe and South America.
But there are a few big exceptions. Americans need to get advance visas to Brazil, China, Russia, India, Vietnam and most countries on the African continent.
The map below shows exactly where a U.S. passport will let you travel.

In the seven 0bama caliphates you require a passport. /sarc
Super easy to get the Australian visa, you can apply for it online in 5 minutes for an electric visa. Costs $20.
If you travel outside the US, you need a passport. A visa is a different document.
My granddad said the same thing.
He was right.
An Australian visa can be obtained online and it’s a very easy process. You still need to do it before arrival. That’s quite a group of countries in company with Australia.
In fact, they get express passports to the US.
Yes, that’s right. We accept American Express, but we need Visas.
Aside from Canada, Australia and NZ, with a possibility of Iceland, I prefer to stay in America anyway.
The map has Puerto Rico as blue, not red. That seems odd.
Visa-free business travel to China would be a big benefit for those of us who frequently need to do it. I think China would allow it if the US would reciprocate, so somebody in Congress needs to get their act together and push for it. We already owe China our first-born sons - at least the US Government could do something to make it easier for us to get back and forth and help pay the debt off.
PR should be turned into an independent commonwealth, IMO. Allowing PR to become a state is called buying trouble.
Hawaii is nowhere to be seen on the map nor the various South Pacific Islands that belong to the US.
Cool...good to know. Thanks for the information.
Having a passport should be on your list...ya never know. They are making it more difficult to get one...
“I guess they are concerned with terrorists. Ya Think?”
No, spies.
RE: Aside from Canada, Australia and NZ, with a possibility of Iceland, I prefer to stay in America anyway.
Tina Turner relinquished her US citizenship to become a Swiss Citizen. Why Iceland (on the brink of bankruptcy) and not Switzerland?
Iceland for the pure rugged beauty. I’ll pass on pretty much anywhere European. I’d also love to see Siberia.
Id also love to see Siberia....LOTS of people would ask “Why?” ANNNND...you might get your wish. Soon.
I never know what? If I’d be confined to my country? My state? My county? My town? My neighborhood? My home? If it gets to the point that we need a passport to leave our homes, we’ve got bigger problems on our hands, IMO.
I don’t have a desire to go anywhere that would require one.
(+ drawn/quartered preferably)
Australia really needs to get with the program.
