To break the monotony of the media rushing to make fools of themselves over the Marathon bombing story I thought I'd bring up a subject that got me thinking earlier today while listening to a classic rock station instead of my usual talk show selection.
I lived through the 70's explosion of hard rock music and although some of it still gets me rocking in my own geriatric way. I thought I'd ask if anyone here had bands that were popular that they never liked, or/and still don't care to hear.
Doors
Jethro Tull
Rush
I just never understood how people could play albums or tapes of these bands over and over - still don't.
,p> Then again, maybe some folks don't like some of my favorites, either.
Rush, in fact. I’ve sort of gotten into Beethoven and Wagner, however. Classic rock radio stations just seem to play the same tired songs over and over again. My favorite singer to this day is still Natalie Merchant. Her voice sounds like a smile.
Post your faves and take that chance.
I have two Rush tunes that I'd rank among the 100 best classic rock songs of all time: "Time Stand Still" and "Spirit of Radio."
Pink Floyd
Prince
Journey
Elton John
Billy Joel
I am more of a ZZ Top kind of guy
I’m only agreeing with Rush.
Hate them.
A lot.
Michael Jackson. Even in the days before he turned from a poor black boy into a rich white woman, I never “got” that guy’s music.
I forgot to mention ELO. But I could spend all day on this subject so I’ll just spare you that. Lots of people like to talk about rock bands they like.
Styx....Gayest band, ever.
Van Halen
The Band
Kiss
Lynard Skynard
The Doors and The Kinks.
True, but at least there were a few Queen songs I liked....I hear a Styx song, and I change the dial as soon as possible.
Queen, ick!
Surprised no one has mentioned Bruce Springsteen....I just never got it.
Very well, your point is now taken.
Good question. All so called “progressive rock”. Art rock, standing on one leg and playing rock and roll on a flute? You’re kiddin’ me! All the pretentious Pink Floyds, ELOs, Emerson, Packard and Palmers, Moody Blues after the 1st album, same with Bloody Sweating Tears, and all of Chitkago.
Maybe this is why I have an unusual taste in a lot of classic rock music. For almost any of the legendary classic rock bands, it seems like my favorite songs are ones that never got a lot of airplay over the years. "Freebird" may be the most popular (or tiresome, depending on how you feel) of their songs, but I've grown very fond of "Tuesday's Gone" in recent years.
