Fat chance serving food to Nanny Bloombergs brigades.
The city Health Department has been trying for two years to get a restaurateur to operate a cafe in its headquarters but it required so many nanny-state provisions that no one applied.
The departments picky food specs mandated that all entrees and sandwiches be less than 700 calories with at least 50 percent under 500, and that no more than 20 snack and dessert items be available at any time, with all less than 200 calories and containing less than 200 milligrams of sodium.
Also, only juices 8 ounces and under and only 1 percent or no-fat milk would be permitted.
No one responded to that request for proposals, an agency representative confirmed.

I suppose they deserve credit for trying to live up to their own standards, no matter how inane those standards are.
Good luck to the new vendor, if she ever gets up and running!
Okay, I’ve been “gotten” before....is this Onion?
If that taco guy sets up across the street, he’ll make a fortune from those employees who want something more than lettuce and water.
The city health department can’t have its own cafe?
lolz
Will nanny Bloomberg still be allowed to eat his “Cheezits”...

Bloomy is such an idiot...
They will never allow him to do it.
Some of those taco wagons are great.
No, no, it seems to be quite real.
If you read the whole piece it talks about a gal who is finally going to be engaged to provide food service there. It goes on at some length about the various hurdles she’s avoiding by not having gone through the usual bidding process.
I guess they figured they better to something, since absent in “in house” cafeteria the employees are probably gorging themselves on greasy pizza, overstuffed hero sandwiches and, worst of all, GIANT sodas.
OK, I’ll fall for it. Here is my bid: 6 oz can of lemon juice and an air sandwich on rye bread for $25.50.
what? Private enterprise isn’t thriving underneath the yoke of excessive regulation, restriction, taxation, and general bureaucracy? Impossible. They probably just need to be taxed a little more.

Beatings will be stepped up until morale improves.
Oh nooooos, not the GIANT sodas!!!! What is this world coming to!!!! Oh the humanity!
You know, A friend of mine wanted to help his son set up a hotdog stand on the Harbor in Rockwall Tx.
It was going to be $10k in licensing fees.
Imagine the regs in NYC
i bet the employees will mostly purchase the higher calorie and higher sodium items... a memo will go out to the employees telling them they better start opting for the healthier choices... just wait...
One question....whatever happened to people bringing in their own lunches? and if they don't, they have a lunch hour in which they can go and purchase their lunch, or have it delivered.....you know, like us normal people do.
We normals are now the “abnormals”!
And, btw, I am a total FREAK because I don't have a tattoo or any piercings other that my earlobes (pssst, don't tell anyone, but I don't even wear earrings, shhhhhh).
NYC is now becoming the cesspool it used to be before Rudy cleaned it up.
People can say what they want about Rudy, be he sure kicked some butt and was hated for it. Got the job done though.
Outside of NYC Thin Crust Pizza, I got no use for NYC.
Well I only have 1 use for it. That is boarding the LIRR to Penn to catch the Amtrak to DC for my Tea Parties.
Oh, and the drug store across the street from Penn in case I need butts.
What is a pack of ciggies in NYC now? $14 a pack?
Can’t remember. Last time I bought a pack there was 9/12/09 (on my way to my 1st Tea party in DC)!
But you are probably in the ballpark. Heard they are talking about increasing the tax another 94 cents.
