You are never safe from SUVs. That family should be lucky it only hit their home two times.

Looked to me like the driver backed up and took another shot at the house...not sure a stuck accelerator is the issue.

“The driver claimed that the accelerator was stuck and they couldn’t stop the car.”
Even if the gas ‘stuck’, there is always neutral or park.

This reminds me of the woman who claimed she accidentally shot the diet doctor a(Tarnower?) six times.

    Stuck accelerator, runaway car.
Shifter - NEUTRAL, Ignition - OFF, Brakes - apply, Problem - solved.
Stupid driver making excuses - no known solution.

As long as this person has a great driving record it was the car not the driver. It looks like the pedal was mostly stuck. I just saw this 5 times.
The person had no time for for neutral on the first encounter. Too small of a stopping distance before hitting the house. He or she was totally shocked. Also in a state of real shock. The second time was to just try to park the car in the driveway but it kicked in to being stuck in the pedal mechanism again. Then notice the car only stopped hitting house thus able to use gear for reverse. Then notice how it was still in an high mode from stuck pedal now in reverse. Thus the tires peeling in a circle. That's my humble opinion.

Someone told me when I was a kid that if you threw it into park while you were moving, the care would do a back-flip ;)

Had this same thing happen to a buddy years and years ago with a Chevelle.
Engine motor mount broke, accelerator jammed wide open, couldn't use column shifter to go to neutral, hit brick building, took him a while to turn ignition off, was pretty shook up.
GM paid for all repairs, was a recall later for the problem they had been knowing about.

if you threw it into park while you were moving, the care would do a back-flipDid you ever try it, lol? One Christmas Eve, we were woken up by music playing. Looked outside to see a car somehow hadn't made the corner, did a couple donuts our yard and ended up in our hedge backwards. Missed the house by this much. Strange stuff always happened at our corner. Coincidentally, it was mom's secretary's passed out drunk husband. His wife was so mad and embarrassed, she never bailed him out so he spent the rest of their kids' Christmas break behind bars. I don't think she ever forgave him.

No key- Only a push button that you have to hold down for 5 seconds while trying to control the car.
Shifter is not directly connected to transmission. It goes through a computer which could decide shifting conditions are unsafe for transmission and refuse your request.
Don’t forget that these are fly by wire cars. This is not your fathers car.
