A teenage lesbian with a Mexican father and an African-American mother is hoping to win the Miss Carolina crown when she competes at the contest this summer.
Analouisa Valencia, 19, is hoping to rattle the pageant stereotypes by becoming the first lesbian in her conservative home state to take the crown, before heading to the national competition.
She has already scored the title in her home town of Lyman and believes it was a victory for equality. Now she wants to take the issues center stage in the state competition in July.
'I want to show the judges who I really am,' she told CNN. 'I want to show them how passionate I am about my platform, how passionate I am for being an advocate for equality.'
Valencia, who has a long-time girlfriend, came out in the ninth grade to mixed responses from her parents. 'My mom at first said, "Well, I don’t support it, but I love you so I’ll support you." She's OK with it now, but it's been a couple of years,' she told Advocate.

Is “Lesbian: Yes/No/Maybe?” a question on the application and if so for what purpose? Inclusion? Do they ask if any applicants are conservative or libertarian for purposes of being inclusive?

In your face just like they all do. A straight contestant would never say that. It's all about whaaaa, I want ATTENTION!!!! A few years ago it was the moody emo kids but they were a major fail compared to today's fad (yes, a fad) of being in your face gay. I can't stand that commercial that talks about 1 in 5 gays attempt suicide. Uh, that attempt not follow through. IOW, attention. They get attention by threatening to harm themselves, then they get even more attention after they "attempt" it. IMO, 99.999% never really want to succeed.

I wonder who 'encouraged' her to explore her sexual choices so early in her life? 15 years old is a little early to cut oneself off from one's human nature. Sadly, the homosexual activism of today really focuses on teenagers, who are in a questioning time of life, anyway, trying to confuse them, and steer them toward that lifestyle. And since teenagers tend to want to shock their parents, homosexuality is one of the only remaining aberrant lifestyles to adopt in order to do that in a major way.
Frankly she is too young to know her own mind yet. She “came out” in the ninth grade? She was just beginning to understand sexuality at that age.
I am very concerned that if and when she decides she has made a mistake, will she be allowed the freedom to leave “the lifestyle”?
I live down the road from Lyman, SC and I didn’t know this.
