An East Bay teen was hit and killed by a train last night after he was reportedly playing a game of "chicken" with two friends, police said. The boy -- who, according to press reports, has been identified as 15-year-old Austin Christopher Price -- was on the tracks off Lewelling Boulevard near San Lorenzo High School just before 7 p.m. on Thursday when the Amtrak train hit him.
The other boys were not injured. Police used this tragedy as an opportunity to remind youngsters that "kids should not be on the train tracks."
"They should not be used as a shortcut home. This is a very sad incident," Alameda County sheriff's spokeswoman April Luckett told NBC News.
The train was traveling from San Jose to Sacramento when the accident happened. Fortunately, no passengers or crew members on board were hurt. The train was stopped for nearly two hours while police investigated.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Another contender for the Darwin Awards.
Does this mean he won?
Sure, like the train is going to chicken out and dodge away.
Depends on his end game.
Time to register trains. If it saves just one child’s life...
Reminds me of the “Boys on the tracks” an original Free Republic conspiracy topic and I believe related to the Clintons.
Does this mean he won?It was a tie.
It went to sudden death.
It wasn’t an “accident” as the report states.
In the show Nashville this past Wednesday they were doing this with a pick up truck.
I have a feeling.
Fortunately, no passengers or crew members on board were hurt.
Damn, they really dodged a bullet there.
The notion of playing “chicken” against such unwinnable odds suggests that the teen was on drugs... you cannot win against a train.
LMBO!!
Tell me this is satire.
Should I feel bad for wanting to belly laugh?
I guess I shouldn’t laugh, I mean, dude proved beyond any doubt that he is not a chicken, so that’s got to count for something.
I don't think he was playing chicken against the train. I think he was playing chicken against the other kids - first one to jump out of the way is the chicken.
Why stop the train for two hours? Let’s see, the train is doing it’s job and headed down the track as is it’s only course, a boy gets in the way of said train and gets hit.
So what’s to investigate about the train?
Mena Arkansas. Dixie mafia.
Fortunately, no passengers or crew members on board were hurt.

The train will be intact, of course. But if the train operator sees an obstacle on tracks and activates emergency braking then the deceleration can be strong enough to cause falls among passengers; luggage may fall and injure someone, glass items may fall and break into sharp blades, hot drinks spilled, power cords torn and shorted, etc. It doesn't take much to break a leg of an old woman, or to injure someone's eye. These things do happen, and the comment about health of passengers is warranted.
In this case the operator(s) probably haven't seen anyone on tracks until the last moment. After the collision they had to decide between an emergency stop (and injuring someone on the train, as they are well aware) and a regular braking. They likely elected to do a regular stop - which, of course, caused no injuries on the train.
