Our local grackles have mastered imitating the car alarm and even cats!

When I was a child someone gave my dad a baby crow. We raised it and it lived in a big cage until it was grown. Then we started letting it out of it's cage during the day and it stayed around in our yard and was a great pet. His name was Roscoe and he learned to say a couple of words. Mostly he said “hello mama” when anyone came out the back door. Roscoe started roaming farther from home and began attacking children walking home from school, walking along and pecking their feet and flying at their heads. After some parents complained, my dad gave him to someone who lived out in the country and I never saw Roscoe again.

They are stinkers! They are VERY bright, tho. My cats HATE them. They get dive bombed all the time when walking across the yard.

I grew up on a farm too. If I didn’t have a shotgun, the crows would stay put. If I had the shotgun, they would see it and take off before I was in range.
To: dfwgator
Well, they won’t if they play poely.

Some kids like birds and some crows...seem to know the difference.

I am about 10 years younger than you but have been pretty busted up. But I am still kicking...and getting fit after my last bust up.
See the tag line...and get fit!

I had two siamese cats who almost didn’t want to go outside because a bluejay was always waiting to torture them. Side-splittingly funny. They’d try to jump - 5 feet sometimes - to
rid themselves of him but no dice.
He’d just sit there and taunt them from a young tree outside the door.

I saw Roscoe one afternoon when he was attacking the kids. I thought it was funny but then I had helped raise him and I wasn’t afraid of him no matter what he did.

We never shot them for the “sport” of it. We never had the time for that (not saying I wouldn’t, we just did not and never gave it a second thought). A dairy farm works, 24/7 with 265 head to be milked, 40 veal to be fed, and 617 acres of everything you could think of.
