Justified Season 4 Finale Review: One Coin, Two Sides
TV.com ^ | April 3, 2013 | Tim Surette

Posted on 04/05/2013 7:13:11 AM PDT by Bratch

Having previously wrapped up the mystery of Drew Thompson, the hunt for Ellen May, and the dangerous situation with Limehouse in an outstanding five-episode arc to conclude the major events of Season 4, there was little for Justified to do in its season finale other than get poetic and set up Season 5. While last week's episode, "Peace of Mind," was a thorough showcase for the series' secondary characters, the finale shifted focus to Justified's two leading men, Boyd Crowder and Raylan Givens, and how they're two sides of the same rusty old nickel.

More so than previous seasons, Season 4 really played up Boyd and Raylan's history with each other and Harlan, and how early choices in their lives steered them to where they are today. Give or take a few cosmic nudges somewhere along the line, and it's easy to see how Raylan could have been Harlan's public enemy number one, and Boyd its shining star. Those two are more alike than they'd care to admit, thanks to being the two smartest crackers in the county. One just happens to work for the law, and the other just happens to work against it (though Raylan isn't afraid to re-draw the line when it suits him).

Terrific show. Nick Searcy is a friend and an investor in my little film company. I hope we’ll have him on screen, too.

I think season one was probably the weakest, but it sets up the characters. Season 2 was the best; Mags Bennett was by far the best bad guy followed closely by Ellstin Limehouse, though Quaryles wasn’t bad either. This season was excellent but I think it pales a bit in comparison. Still put it above season one.

She must have something that appeals to them.

Outstanding show, can’t believe something original came out of hollywood. The only show we DVR and wait to watch. If Art left the show I probably wouldn’t watch it. He has some of the best lines, great tag team between he and Raylan. I can’t believe I am talking about a TV show like this.

I come from the Appalachian foot hiils by way of the Ozarks to Texas and the pilot that was shot in Pennselvania has a much better back home feel to it for me. The show is just great, refuse to buy comercials on cable so I wait for the DVDs, season 4 should be hitting Target soon.

There are a lot of original shows out there. Just none of them on the mainstream media outlets.

I could go for some of her apple pie right about now. So long as I provide the glass.

Bump for that rare thing now days - great television - acting, and writing.

We were late comers to this show, and due to our very intermittent viewing habits, never seem to catch it “in season”, but we are always expectantly awaiting the release of each new season ; }

Thank You Lord, for blessings without number.

Ironically, a friend and I find season 2 to be our least favorite. Mags was a great character but I thought the whole Bennett clan/feud thing seemed off to me. Still, season 2 was really good.

The Pittsburgh area filming of the pilot and opening credits provided a good background. I’m sure the $$$ required to keep filming the series there wasn’t financially sound.

I don’t normally watch syndicated shows but FX appears to put out some excellent shows from what I’ve gathered from folks.
