Be there or ....... Just reminding you all great unwashed freeperdom

Three words: Read the books.
I was absolutely disgusted by that piece of filthy trash. And I wanted to like it.
I like the storyline and the opening theme animation, lol
I agree........ I’m fast forwarding so much stuff. Don’t want to see it.
I have a question... why did Ned confess to being a traitor?
Sex has been a fact throughout human history, too. Right?
My confusion is how people can sputter and mutter about seeing implied sex on tv and yet, not blink at graphic violence. The sex is implied because there is no actual “act” going on. Some movement, some boobs, etc. But nothing specific that shows you that it is intercourse. (Thankfully)
On the other hand, people are stabbed, cut, bludgeoned, etc., and it’s shown. It’s not real, but it’s shown with blood and special effects. Every specific detail of the violence is shown. Nothing is implied.
See my point and my confusion?
The reason Ned confessed is because Varys convinced him to do so.
While Ned stated that honor means more to him than his own life, Varys pointed out that Cersei still held Sansa. There was also a deal to let Ned take the Black for his alleged treason, however Joffrey nixed that deal.
Yes.
For my own part, I can live without the enhanced scenes between Renly and Ser Loras.
They were not in the book at all.
Their gay relationship was vaguely hinted at, it was never even directly addressed. However in the series there are several scenes where it appears they are going out of their way to show gay relations.
This does not make me not want to watch the show, because I think it’s fantastic, however, those scenes are a bit much.
Thank you Chris. I have another question(s)...
There is a scene between Tyrion and Cersei and it seems to me that Cersei regrets putting Jofrey on the throne, and she is on the bed crying and Tryion seems to come close as if to comfort her. Is that what is happening and do they grow closer as a result of this.
Btw, I really like Tyrion. He’s grown on me despite the constant vulgarity.
And finally, is Tywin Lannister evil? He doesn’t come across that way to me, for example on how he well he treats the “cupbearer”.
Your thoughts? :)
p.s. They killed off my favorite characters, mainly Ned and Khal. However, I’m really liking Tyrion and Kate’s new bodyguard. This show has such fascinating characters!
“Implied sex” means they don’t show it, like 2 peole hug and kiss and it fades to black, you mean “simulated sex” (we can hope it’s simulated anyways) which should not be on TV in my opinion.
Everyone knows the blood and guts are fake The boobs, pricks, butts and other aren’t fake. Heck, they don’t even put the kids into body suits for nudity anymore.
Well, I will attempt to answer some of these questions, but I do not want to spoil. I highly, recommend reading the books, because these are without a doubt the most detailed and deep characters that I have ever encountered in any book I’ve ever read.
Cersei hates Tyrion. Tyrion is a good man. He is truly one of the finest characters in the books.
It’s difficult to say if Tywin is evil. For example, it is easy to say that Joffrey is evil. Something ain’t right with that boy. But it’s harder to make such judgments on other characters. Jaimie for instance. He starts off loathsome, but does he remain that way?
The Hound...seems like a horrid beast of a person, but is he?
Tywin is a hard and proud man. He is evil in some ways, but perhaps not so much in others. One thing is for certain, the actor Charles Dance was perfectly cast to play this role of Tywin...his eyes are just deadly.
What is very interesting to me is the dynamics of the relationship between himself and Tyrion.
The thing I’ve noticed about the killing off of some characters, especially Ned and Drogo, is that, as sad as it is, as some characters depart it makes room for others to shine.
Thank you again Chris. I wonder if the Hound saved Sansa out of compassion?
And, does Cersei regret putting Jofrey on the throne. I don’t mind you “spoiling”. :)
I hope Tyrion doesn’t get killed off. I read on IMDB that he is one of the fan favorites. Peter Dinklege is an awesome actor, I’m really impressed. Whoever does the casting for this show is a genius.
Uh, what show currently on tv has nude kids in it? Why mention kids in this conversation? That’s odd.
Simulated...implied...neither show male genitalia (real or simulated) being inserted anywhere. Certainly no bodily fluids are shown either. Whereas with violence, fake body parts and blood ARE used. See the distinction? Why are people ok with fake murders but faint at the sight of a nude body? Makes zero sense.
Whether or not Cersei regrets putting Joffrey on the throne is a question that I am unable to answer at this point.
Attempting to do so requires that I discuss an event that has not yet occurred in the series, so I do not want to do that at this time.
I have my suspicions on that matter, but by the end of book 5, I have no actual evidence on that possibility.
With regard to the Hound, I will just say that somehow Sandor Clegane went from being a despicable villain to one my favorite non-point of view characters in the book.
As far as the casting goes, it is just magnificent.
Some of the roles are perfectly cast.
Tyrion, Tywin, Arya, Drogo, Ned, Varys, Jon Snow, Samwell, Lord Commander Mormont, Daenerys are all just perfection.
I’m sure there’s more that I have failed to mention, but those really stand out to me.
My favorite character in the books and the series is Arya Stark.
there was Mtv’s “Skins” for one but I didn’t mean on TV in particular. There was filming of an ICarley episode where the girl “Sam” was topless and she was REALLY topless (and she was about 15)
It doesn’t have to show anything being inserted to be porn. But there was a Sex & City episode where there was a female ejaculation and the squirt was shown.
HBO also has “Real Sex” and some show about a brothel and they do show real sex being engaged in.
The problem is that our culture has sexualized kids to the point where a documentary about “Sex in America” showing a 13 year old girl looking for a “hookup” online doesn’t even raise an eyebrow.
Those who think nudity on TV isn’t part of the problem are missing the picture.
I disliked Cersei intensely from the start, which is understandable since the character is written to be intensely dislikeable. I fell head over heels for Lena Headly as an actress after season 2 episode 9 “Blackwater,” though. Wow, instant classic. The whole episode is itself the single coolest thing I’ve ever seen that was made for tv. The building sense of dread, the gloom, the horror of the siege. It was worth watching again despite the gore, and I did.
I thought that the final two episodes of season 2 was some of the very finest television that I have ever seen.
The battle was depicted so well. It was sadly missing one key element from the book, but nonetheless the scene was magnificent.
I particularly liked the season finale too, the scene between Bran, Rickon, Hodor, Osha, and the dying Maester Luwin was very touching.
Likewise, the scene between Daenerys and Khal Drogo in the warlock tower was just absolutely awesome, and that was an added scene that was not in the books, in fact much of what occurred in the tower was not in the books. Pryat Pree’s demise via dragon flame was great, but it was presented differently in the book as well.
Overall the producers have done a startling job in bringing the books to life, however I am very glad that I read the books first.
Sometimes, liberties have to be taken for a successful visual representation with actual dialogue. Being too slavishly devoted to literally following the book can cause problems. Take, for example, The Shining. Great movie, veered from the book substantially because it had to in most instances, but sometimes alterations were made for pacing and visual interest. Great directors and actors make it work. There are plenty of examples of veering away from the book for apparently no good reason too, though. No vision, lack of skill, holding the book in poor regard, political agenda on the part of the script, direction and actors. That’s always disappointing. This series isn’t at all.
Ah no doubt.
The books are so detailed that it would be all but impossible to be able to translate that to screen.
I understand that it must be streamlined, and to be honest I love the series. It’s just amazing to see these books that I love brought to life, especially with such talented actors.
The books will always be my favorite though. They are truly a window to another world.
Tyrion was extremely brave and exhibited such amazing leadership skills. It’s a travesty what happened to him afterwards. Obviously this is just a show, but I had tears in my eyes when his father talked to him afterwards, condeming him for killing his mother, being a dwarf, questioning his bloodline, removing him from being the “hand”, etc etc. It’s just so hearbreaking to watch. I have a feeling he’s not going to get any breaks in the future.
The author of these stories truly has no sympathy for his characters.
