Jim Rogers: Taking people's bank accounts is going to happen
examiner.com ^ | 3/28/2013 | : Kenneth Schortgen Jr.

On March 28, billionaire investor Jim Rogers appeared as a guest on the CNBC program, Squawk on the Street. During the four minute interview, Rogers was pointedly asked if what occurred in Cyprus was a one time deal, or if this is now a template for the future of Western economies and banks. Without hesitation, Rogers said that this is going to happen, and taking people's money from their bank accounts is a certainty as both the IMF and ECB have already condoned it in their precedent.

CNBC Host Carl Quintinella: What's your appetite on Europe at these levels?

Jim Rogers: No, I'm certainly not buy there. It's pretty scary what's going on in Europe when they start taking money out of people's bank accounts. I for one am making sure I don't have too much money in any single bank account anywhere in the world now because now there is a precedent Carl. The IMF has said sure, loot the banks accounts. The EU has said loot the bank accounts. So you can be sure in other countries when the problems come are going to say, well, it's condoned by the EU, it's condoned by the IMF. let's do it too.

Most items are perishable and don’t last long.

Only to someone without the skillsets to prepare and store things.

Skills I learned at my grandmother's knee. Most of my garden will get canned, cured, pickled, or dried before next winter sets in.

You’re exactly right and that’s why they don’t need to physically remove money from your account.

"Canned items can last decades if in a cool and dry place. Far longer than we will probably need them to. Pastas can last decades. Rice can too."

Great advice. Thanks.

they will take the safety deposit boxes first

then any money above some number (prolly $50k)

then the 401Ks

of course they’ve already taken 50% of your money by diluting the dollar over the last 4 years.

We really can't tell any difference in our 1999 white rice between then and now (I owned a preparedness store), and my wife is from that part of the world so she would know. It is stored in sealed buckets but with no O2 absorbers or special environmental considerations (in fact it has been exposed to extreme temperatures along the way). Other perhaps less hardy dried foods we store in a climate-controlled space and in containers purged of most oxygen.

"Skills I learned at my grandmother's knee. Most of my garden will get canned, cured, pickled, or dried before next winter sets in."

Great advice. Thanks to both of you. I had machines (e.g., generators) and other non-food items in mind and didn't make that clear while mentioning the means to produce. Sorry. I've learned to do all kinds of repairs, am experimenting with low-tech. energy (heating) system builds (cold place here) and have experience in custom machining, mechanics, electrical work, electronics, structural building, PV solar systems, etc.

My point was that people capable of casting/forging and cutting good metal parts will rule after this collapse caused by lack of manufacturing and other mistakes (social declines, etc.). In my area, machines can get extra current from homebuilt wind turbines (very tough designs with large, open alternators for the frequent high winds here). Other areas might dictate steam/electric generation (careful, hazards there requiring much study or designs made by consulting engineers). Depends on local conditions.

We might see what a real technocracy looks like before long (not the dishonest use of the word in contemporary, sponsored propaganda but the original definition). See men at work.

I am comforted that my bookcase holds the collected works of David Gingery and Guy Lautard.

When Obama starts directly tapping bank accounts the excrement will hit the fan

You mean, like the income tax? Medicare? "Social Security"? Like that?

Interesting. Thanks. I wonder how long rice would keep in a cold, dry climate at over 9,000 feet? ;-)

Just about forever (although a chemical analysis would be likely to show some changes which would affect nutritional value). Make sure it's white rice for storage purposes.
