The dire implications of these numbers is evident in a Children's Defense Fund report that included a chilling historical perspective: The 44,038 black children killed by guns since 1979 (when national data on the age of gun violence victims was first collected) is "nearly 13 times more" than all the black people killed by lynching in the 86-year period of 1882 to 1968.
Almost 50 years ago, when the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed, the national out-of-wedlock birthrate was 7%. Today it is over 40%. According to the CDC, the out-of-wedlock birthrate for white children was just 2% in the 1960s. Today it is 30%. Among black children, the out-of-wedlock birthrate has skyrocketed from 20% in the 1960s to a heartbreaking 72% today. The Hispanic out-of-wedlock rate, which has been measured for a much shorter period, was below 40% in 1990 and stands at more than 50% as of the 2010 census.
When President Obama tried to speak to this crippling dynamic in 2008, he was basically told to shut up by Rev. Jesse Jackson. The Chicago-based activist said: "Barack was talking down to black people," then he added a vulgar threat about what he wanted to do in response. The moment revealed the high cost of speaking honestly about social breakdown in black America.

Those were lives ended just as much as those killed by "gun violence..." But NO ONE wants to talk about that.
No intellectually honest person can support gun control.
What would happen if we made the same observation about the 44,038 black children killed by guns since 1979?
I seriously question the thinking skills of somebody who can write the line above and follow it up with another line about how he agrees with gun control as a concept. Color him...Clueless. He's willing to broach the subject of culture yet can't understand it as a root cause that is not addressed by trying to control an inanimate object rather than the bad people that use it to do evil.
This Affirmative Action simpleton just can’t bring himself to connect all of the dots, now can he?
He wouldn’t do it to the liberal media who ostracized and fired him, and he can’t do it with guns because Starr Parker and her group beat him to it and by agreeing to her historical facts in any way would expose the Democrat Party for who they really are; the creators of the KKK and Jim Crow laws.
Planned Parenthood literally has blood on their hands, yet the NRA is evil to them.

Just say to yourself “what if this happens to 12 year old girls........” but not ALL 12 year old girls ~ just those from certain groups.
LBJ declared War on Poverty. Barack Obama declared unconditional surrender.
Whenever sensational sounding numbers are posted about the number of “children” killed by guns, realize that the definition of a “child” can be very flexible. In most of these body counts, late teen gang bangers are included just to make the numbers more horrific. You’re thinking of 5 year-olds while the actual count is of turf warring black inner city male 16 thru 19 year-olds.
And how did lynching come to a stop? Certainly not by the Rope Control Act! Lynching came to an end when the potential lynching victims were armed and able to defend themselves, and when courts vigorously prosecuted lynchers for murder.
LBJ declared war on Poverty and the collateral damage was the Black Family and culture.
Barack Obama declared war on Prosperity. I wonder what the collateral damage will be.
Juan, how many of those black victims of firearms were shot by whites? (crickets)
Sorry - there is a fatal flaw in his basic premise. Lynchings are rightly assigned as actions on behalf of the lynchers. “Gun violence” is assigned as action by the tools used - guns. To be the same, lynchings would have to be assigned to the rope used - when rope is used.
Anyone who talks about “gun violence” without specifically stating up front that they consider the violence to be an act carried out by an individual using a tool is emitting propaganda against a basic tool that is to be unfettered by the law.
Yes statistics can be very deceiving if you dont look at how they define what they are counting.
But however you define youth/child there are a lot of Blacks killing other blacks.
It makes no sense to blame the guns for the killings and this is the jest of article. Blacks are killing blacks in numbers disproportionate to their representation in the population.
Do Blacks own guns in greater numbers than whites? Not according to any numbers I have ever read. In fact the numbers I have seen would suggest the opposite.
I would suggest as Mr. Williams does that the Black culture is at the root of the problem.
I am guessing that you did not read the entire article. You should. Williams major point is not Gun Violence.
Williams in his article is making the point that guns are not at the root of the problem with the high rate of black on black murder.
I believe that his analogy of lynching and black on black murder is that Lynching (white on Black murder) is often used in the media as a method of whipping up emotion for the cause but far more blacks have died at the hands of other blacks and this issue prominent by lack of attention it receives in the media and by black politicians/opinion makers.
The shooters in these “black deaths” are almost 100% black Juan, while white murderer percentages are at your idealistic European levels.
So, if you are OK with violating civil rights in order to attain a little safety, wouldn’t it make more sense to ban all black people from possessing weapons?
If that strikes you as wrong Juan, please tell us why. Wouldn’t disarmed black people be safer? How is making them safer a violation of their rights, Juan?
