The ZiP™.22 L.R. brings a whole new meaning to the term gun of the future.

ZiP™ delivers a long sought after vision of “X-box” gamers and advanced weapon enthusiasts not possible until now. A futuristic weapons system where the unique arrangement of the principal components enables overall compactness and results in a new form factor. Multiple platform enhancements including the ZiPPIC™ Rail, ZiPNite™ Rail -or- the ZiPSBR™ Rail allow attachment of ZiP™ to your AR. (Approved ATF Form 1 Permit Required.) This makes ZiP™ The Future of Fun™ while delivering the compelling new “ZiP-Action” at an incredible value.

ZiP™ has a new and efficient form factor which makes possible the new ZiP-Action™ and 5 safeties, including a traditional cross-bolt trigger safety, a new modern sear safety improved by the development of a new linear trigger, and no winding trigger bar (also eliminating any dependency on the tiny coil spring in the rear of those dated striker designs) and lastly, a striker block which remains closed for nearly all of the trigger travel – opposite of all modern striker guns – making ZiP™ one of the most advanced platforms ever offered.

These improvements will have significant benefits for future ZiP™ family weapons design and delivering unmatched value to consumers.

What?

Are they afraid of showing the thing loaded with a mag?

Looks stoopit and space agey in the pics.

Wanna see a pic of my brother’s .22 space agey Smith and Wesson? It’s got Wessonality!

Next post....

Is that a S&W 22/14 derivative?

I owned one and the extractor would never work.

Worse gun ever.

It wasn’t the Calico,

It is the American 180.

Well you confused people with "20 to 30 yeats ago" and "100 round magazine", which was the Calico M-100

The American-180 was 30 to 40 years ago and 177 round magazine.

Well I read the article 36 years ago and was going by memory and thinking that it had died out.

I did get the part about being fully automatic correct and 30 years is pretty close to 36 years, in this casual context.

Incidentally the American 180 made a couple of popular culture appearnces in the late 70s

The first in Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise novel Dragon's Claw(1978) got the usage mostly right.

The second in the UK TV series The Professionals "Hunter/Hunted" got it totally wrong. "A fully automatic laser-sight sniper rifle firing a 22LR cartridge effective to 1,000 yards - at least".

Neat trick on that last. If it could really do that, sales would have gone outta sight!

Uses a standard Ruger 10/22 magazine.

Anybody familiar with it?

Read a lot about it on the gun forums and my shooting YouTube channels.

Jam-o-matic with 10 round magazines, and won't operate with any other aftermarket non-Ruger 10/22 extended magazine. Will only work with the Ruger BX-25 magazine if you also buy USFA's magazine 'upgrade' kit that replaces the factory magazine spring with a stronger one.

There is an accessory Picatinny rail mount to mount it to the bottom of your AR, but then you've created a short barreled rifle and must register it with the ATF, pay the $200, and wait six months for the tax stamp.

Other than to have as a novelty item, it's pretty much a paperweight.

Indeed it does. I want a gun that looks like what I think of as a gun. Too much of a traditionalist, I suppose.

I just don't see any improvement over what currently exists. Yeah, it looks futuristic, but the ergonomics are obviously bad.

Having to push a plunger in front that runs parallel to the barrel to cock it, well... let's just say I see some fingertips getting, er, 'damaged' here and there.

My grandson checked the local Walmart last night, all they have in stock is some 30/06 and 12 gauge.

This company just zipped away from a very desirable Single Action Army revolver program to this zip gun. They no longer answer any qweries regarding support for their $1000.00 revolvers. As I have one of their revolvers which is a most elegant and finely crafted tool, I am underwhelmed with their new and exclusive product and am unimpressed with their customer support.

That has to be the stupidest looking design I’ve ever seen. It must have been executed by a 21 year old new design graduate who grew up on COD. I can’t comment on the internal design they describe, all the little grooves, ruts, channels, nooks and crannies will fill up with dirt and gunk. All the protrusions and snag points will get in the way of smooth pick up and operation.

One of our local Three Bears stores which is like a smaller Costco here in Alaska has a full inventory of rifles and pistols, full ammo shelves as well.

But they also have signs saying they are out of the poodle shooter rounds like the .223. Most people carry at laest a .45 in AK because even the 9mm and .40 is insufficient against bear, the 10mm is the minimum.

So we have plenty of 10mm, .41magnum, 44magnum, .500 and such big pistol calibers.

What we don’t have is .22lr of which many Alaskans don’t have much use for though many have .22lr pistols and rifles. Its just a target range caliber and occasional small game round.

The .223 is pretty much a joke but can be used for wof control if its the right ammo but its not good for anything else. The .308 is also out of stock and actually its used a lot but not for big game, its a useful cartridge for hunting and is or was cheap.
Alaskans do NOT shoot off thousands of rounds willy nilly on the weekends, there is some indoor pistol ranges but they usually do not like the big magnum stuff, there are some outdoor ranges but with the adverse winter conditions they are deserted half the year.

So in summary Alaskans naturally stockpile ammo, what is off the shelf is the common NATO stuff and light pistol rounds. Almost all popular big game rounds are in full stock plus the lighter fast stuff like the 22-250, .243, 270 and such.

The DHS may have a billion .40 cal hollowpoints but 150 million people are stocked up with 30-06 and larger calibers hunting rifles.

And about those MRAPS, oooooh so scary...I bet they don’t float very well, cannot handle -40 temps, cannot be driven in deep snow or tundra and will probably breakdown and will have to wait for months for the most basic of repairs.

I agree - seems to be more of a curiosity than an improvement Like the double-barreled .45 autos we’ve seen recently, I don’t see an advantage in functionality or in compactness. Plus there is the obvious fingertip riskiness you pointed out.
