The United States men's national team downed Costa Rica 1-0 Friday night in what will be remembered as one of the great soccer games played in the Americas. It wasnt because of the tactics or the technique, but the setting: a driving snowstorm that both teams gutted through to play out an unforgettable match.
Depending on where you were sitting, it was either thriller or farce. There was talk after the game that the Costa Rican FA was preparing a protest; many American fans said it was one of the most enthralling matches theyd ever seen.

Having been stuck in a de-icing loop at DIA late one night in May I gotta ask, whose idea was it to try to play a soccer game in Colorado in March?
And yes, this is about the only good news to come out of Colorado in a long, long time.
Since we won - we need to look for more snow.
I watched the match last nite, and it was a total blizzard by the 2d half.
However, contrary to what the article mentioned, Costa Rica team insisted on finishing match when the ref and FIFA/ CONCACAF tried to call off the match
And, weather upmanship is nothing new....Honduras did that w Mexico yesterday playing home match in humid San Pedro Sula instead of cooler, higher elevation Tegucigalpa.
It’s a good day whenever the mens’ team wins. This just happened to be more fun to watch because of the unique weather.
I woke up right after the third pinching penalty in the second half and then fell back asleep right before all the excitement took place. I heard somebody actually stayed awake the entire game but was then sentenced to 20 days in a mental institution due to being bored stiff. It is a boring game and even when playing it one can fall asleep.
The team looking for the advantage.
Use to coach soccer and we practiced in the rain.
Most teams didn’t and if we played them in rain we’d whoop em bad.
Not too much practice for them Costa Ricans in snow.
Estadio Azteca is at about 8200 feet and Mexico is the team we need to beat. If we want to practice at high altitude maybe we should build a soccer stadium at Aspen or Park City. :o)
The game should have been played in Texas or Arizona.
Now THAT's a soccer game I would have watched....
Maybe if I was in long term solitary confinement, I might watch a soccer game.
But he needs to let everyone know how much he doesn’t care!
Why do you hate the First Amendment?
120,000 rabid Mexican soccer fans and their bazoobas may have some effect too.
Not to mention the very poor treatment the American team will suffer from the moment their jet touches down.
Was is soccer? Then the answer is farce
waah
I don’t watch a ton of soccer but I’ve never seen a match in a blizzard before.
The Costa Ricans are whining about it.
