The invasive porkers have made themselves at home across more than three quarters of the U.S. and are responsible for an estimated $1.5 billion in damages each year. Most worrisome is their ability to learn from each encounter with a frustrated human.

The wild pig population in the U.S. has ballooned to more than 5 million. In one year alone, federal managers trapped and killed more than 32,000 pigs from 28 states and collected thousands of samples to check for the nearly three dozen diseases feral pigs are capable of carrying and passing on to humans, livestock and other wildlife

Could they start in the Beltway?
Instead of spending $1m to get rid of these critters why not just lift all of the restrictions on hunting them and then let hunters get rid of them for free?

In florida they have lifted almost all restrictions and still can’t get rid of them. They breed very fast.
“In florida they have lifted almost all restrictions and still cant get rid of them. They breed very fast.”
We’re in Wyoming and we get wild pigs on the ranch sometimes and they *never* make it out alive. I’ve discovered that my chickens LOVE boiled pork! We also let the dogs eat their fill, too, so nothing goes to waste.
What is really funny is when you have Fried Chicken from somewhere, toss it out and then they come running to pick the bones. Lols!
You can catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods where wild pigs frequent and placing an adequate amount of corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the area where they are used to coming. When they get used to the section of fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that small change in environment and start to eat again. You continue this process until you have all four sides of the fence up, with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to eating the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat. When you see that they all are peacefully eating the free corn, you slam the gate shut on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. They eventually accept their situation and soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are now owned. They are not free to do what they used to be able to do.
That is exactly what is happening to America.
And some pigs are more equal than others.
There’s an easy solution: Issue free hunting licenses with no bag limit.
Of course the feral government will figure out a way to screw this up.
Ham Sandwich, there' s a porker at 5 o'clock, good buddy....
*crackle* ... Thanks, Eggs, watch my six, and I'll be makin' bacon!"
Our state started baiting and shooting them a long time ago. The border counties get incursions, but nobody has seen a wild hog in our area for a decade.
I’ve considered driving down to Oklahoma to shoot me some free pork.
“New Mexico. They’re willing to bet $1 million in federal funds on a yearlong pilot project aimed at eradicating the pigs and using what they learn here to keep them from gaining a foothold elsewhere.””””
Here for a second I thought they were talking about the Washington politicians....My bad! (Then again) /sarc

I live about 15 miles west of Port St. Lucie, Florida,
From here to West Palm Beach there are approximately a million wld pigs be they decendants of formerly domestic or wild hogs.
Fact is you can shoot them any time any where cept in some city limits day or night.
I live in a private airport community and they can become a real danger. We’ve had them get well over 400 pounds and boy can they tear up a yard, runway or even a car.
Instead of spending $1m to get rid of these critters why not just lift all of the restrictions on hunting them and then let hunters get rid of them for free?
I may be mistaken but most places require no tag for hogs, have no season except restrictions during deer season and have no limits.
My BIL shoots them any time he sees them.
Would it be possible they would use the money to give out free ammunition and guns to those that can’t afford them?
Start in NYC, Chicago, LA and Boston.
