Spring training is a time during pre-season where players get to practice, play and make mistakes. This year, even the ball girls are getting in on the blunders.
The Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays were in the top of the sixth inning this weekend when Rays' hitter Shelly Duncan hit a ground ball that bounced into left field foul territory.
The ball was ruled fair, but a Hooters ball girl picked it up with her glove and handed it to a fan in the stands.
The embarassing move wasn't a total loss.
"She has no idea that she has interfered with the play," the announcer said. "But she's making a young fan very happy with that ball."
Red short shorts, and tennis shoes with white socks ... reminds me (fondly) of the 80’s ...
Il kiss her on the strike she can kiss me on the oh nevermind
I promised Jim Id behave

Yes...batter was awarded second base on 'interference' call...
Ground rule double!
I understand that the batter was a master. Batter.
I only opened this link, for the discussion about Baseball rules . . .
Most likely. Is there a rule that covers outside interference?.......
It was a ground rule double because the ball went into her hands.
LOL ping!
They let Pujols have a designated runner. Not a pinch runner. He got to bat again when it was his turn.
I only opened this link to watch the male FReepers make goobers of themselves.
SCORE!
Sir, I deeply admire your commitment to the rule of law.
Besides, it’s Spring Training, who cares?
Put her on the hot corner.
With the Hooters girl?

A ball striking or handled by a ball attendant or umpire is a live ball. I suppose since it “went off” the ball attendant into the stands it’s a ground rule double.
Fenway used to use kids from the high school were Dan Duquette’s son (and my daughter) attended. One kid fielded a ground ball that was ruled fair. The camera caught him sitting there with the most sheepish grin you ever saw. After the end of that half inning, he was relieved and sent home, never to appear on the field again.
Like most teams the Red Sox use female ball attendants these days, and they seem quite capable.
Heh.. Soupy Sales.
Here in Pittsburgh they started recruiting girls from local college softball teams to serve as ball girls. And often a lot of them make better plays in the field than the Pirates do.
The left-field ball girl at Citizens Bank Park did exactly the same thing last year during a regular season Phillies game.
